The novel 1984 comes to mind.

This is intolerable. The war on drugs must end! It's eaten enough of our resources. It's persecuted enough innocent people. We have to legalize marijuana and stop jailing people for personal use of any drug.

It's kinda funny, because the first round of prohibition didn't end any better either. The only things prohibitional laws do is cause more problems not only for everyone involved, but everyone else as well.

That is why we must study history, to keep from repeating it.

Crack down hard on people selling the hardest drugs and even harder on those manufacuring or transporting large amounts. Much as it is today.

But don't charge people for use as at that stage the amount is going to be pitiful even at the most ardent drug users and most of the time ends up with dumb situations where a man loses his job because a cop finds specks of pot in his rental car or something.

At the same time people should understand what they are taking and if it turns out to be not what was expected they should feel like they can say "Hey I bought some crack from a new dealer and it dissolved my arm, I think this might be a public health risk." without going to jail for some of the longest sentences there are in normal practise.

This is just another way of telling people they cannot have their own opinions that contradict those in power. Just wow. Isn't this suppose to be a free country with no astrics? **free only if you believe what I believe *

This happened in Garden City, Kansas. The police interrogated the child without parental consent or knowledge, and then used that unlawfully obtained info to get a search warrant. They searched the child's home, and arrested the Mom for a very small amount of cannabis oil she uses to treat her Crohns disease. They then put the child in foster care.

Here's their Kansas - "War on Plants" - battle plan in their own words:

That is really yellow journalism, even for a .gov page.

That's deeply saddening. What a terrible lesson this kid will learn from this incident.
