Kathmandu is beautiful and peaceful... even during the street riots in opposition to the government, the people are polite and it's just a matter of keeping away from the crowded areas the are rioting. No issues at all. Tibet is a bit trickier with the Maoist rebels who blow up highways and train lines... but the Buddhist people are delightful beyond measure.

Living among Muslims is difficult... I basically made sure I never made eye contact with women and ensured they didn't find out that I was gay. That said, I was almost murdered on one occasion during 2006 when Saddam Hussein was executed and ALL the Muslims chimped-out and started rioting with street protests and gangs of Muslims looking for white people to murder for Allah. I was forced to hide at my Hindu friend's apartment for three days. The entire tourist industry of India essentially ceased during those days... three Canadians were stupid enough to try to sneak a glimpse of the Taj Mahal at Agra, but they were seen and stoned almost to death by Muslims!
