Vitamins are dietary supplements which, by law, must be safe for consumption. However, there is no requirement that they contain anything beneficial. Under the food stamp laws we all seem to want enacted, a Big Mac could become a protected "dietary supplement" since it is "technically" edible, and that eating one is "good for the spirit."

What I meant was that if you include vitamins in the list of approved items, then pretty much everything becomes fair game, since the legal definition of "vitamin" is so loose. McD's will just start calling hamburgers "vitamins."
