ISIS has multiple sources of funding. Apparently oil is a biggie, but also as apparent is that they receive "charitable donations" too.

Hillary: Saudi is "the most significant source of funding for Sunni terrorists worldwide"

I doubt it's that simple. I expect it's very similar to money laundering, there will be plenty of people willing to make a quick buck in exchange for obfuscating the source of the oil.

Maybe your local cops can't figure it out, but the NSA?

I heard yesterday that ISIS has about $1 billion in their coffers, most of it from oil sales. How would they ship that much oil without anyone noticing? That is a lot of oil. Who controls the pipes and ports over there?

Everybody is all over the place. We keep bombing their territory. How could we possibly miss I dont know how many oil trucks leaving the place? Cant we follow their pipeline and see where it leads? It is that easy.

Explain how direct sales of oil could be "similar to money laundering". Obviously they could launder the money to hide the sales but the purchasers of the oil must know something's up if they are buying it for a 2/3rd less than what it's actually worth.

Author is using "commodity trading house" as a buzzword without knowledge. You can sell oil without it being a trading house. A commodity trading house is where you can buy "futures" that are indexed to the price of a commodity, or just buy regular indexed shares of a commodity. Not all oil sales need be through a trading house and I'm sure a large portion are not

Shower thought: Isis became a big problem using oil wealth, oil prices collapse. Coincidence?

it has everything to do with saudi arabia production. they increased production to counter the profitability of emerging shale oil tech, then kept producing after their american friends realized it was making russia hemorrhage.

Shower thoughts don't always take all the facts into account. I know shale gas production is the real reason.

Yet, Saudis are a huge source of funding for ISIS. . .

ISIS is an american creation. Americans are truly out of touch with who runs their government.

Why not bomb the oil caravans. They can't transport it they can't sell it.

set fire to the wells. they can't sell it if they can't get it out of the ground.

Apparently though the 100 nation alliance bombing ISIS must be blind not to see any of these.

Wouldn't that also catch the oil itself on fire?

Russia is doing this. This is one of their first steps. The question is: "Why did the USA and Turkey and the "Coalition" not bomb these oil trucks and the refineries?"

The Turks want to see ISIS in charge of Syria. Wake up. And Saudi money is paying, somehow, the USA to look the other way.

two reasons I can postulate:

-so that they can be used by innocent people after ISIS is gone. It costs a lot to build a refinery, and if you bomb one you'd pretty much have to rebuild from scratch, you're not going to fix that.

-Environmental...going to produce a lot of harmful gases as well like NOx, SOx, COx in large quantities.

I don't know that area of the world but I do know a little about some places further East and so the only helpful thing I can say here is this super generalized depiction of reality in 2nd/3rd world regions:

Its far more chaotic and unregulated at those levels than most westerners imagine.

Westerners (me included) constantly superimpose their understanding, their 'paradigm', their constructs into the imagine cause or situations. We imagine there is actually some kind of authorities monitoring transport but that borders are clearly defined and that surely local police are capable and willing to investigate some oil tanker truck that just rolls into town.

We imagine that surely officials, local politicians are well onto the licence plate and paperwork switching and that surely they must even be 'in on it' for that to get by so often.

We imagine some kind of 'EPA' and Customs Officers have the time, tools, expertise to stop a truck and determine just where exactly this thing is from!

We even imagine that once that gets to a legitimate semi-regulated marketplace that surely at that point its suspicious origins will be vetted and questioned and there is some official someone to report this to some higher authorities who will then start brining in identified people for questioning.

This is how internet conspiracy theories start among white western suburban people who cannot comprehend this could happen in any other way than requires some organized conspiracy of planning, plotting, payoffs.

And the reality is that many of these places and cultures just quite simply do not have the means, ways, ability, skills, training, organizations to do anything about it. Further more there are people who are too afraid to not move things through and so they just carry on and why wouldn't they anyways.

Obviously that's not really answering the OP Question but I think this is really important for Westerners and 1st worlders to understand and its that they are not in the same 1st world conditions, communications, skills, infrastructure and so on.

Who knows who buys it for sure, but I know all the clowns driving 5 mpg trucks and brodozers are orders of magnitude more likely to be financing the Daesh than people who are driving hybrids and electric vehicles. Oh, the irony of giant douche bags driving around in their unnecessarily large trucks and SUVs crowing about patriotism while they're "freedom" is more likely financing global terror networks.

[–] novictim 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

That is a great point.

What kind of "patriot" puts their idiotic vanity ahead of the well being of their friends and neighbors by driving these unnecessarily large and fuel hogging vehicles? We need to draw scorn and shame on this behavior.

It's irony?

No - back in 2003 during the Iraq invasion, I saw quite a few of these "penis compensators" with bumper stickers saying "kick their ass, steal their gas". They know exactly how this works, and they don't care.
