"white" neighbor. Ohhh, it wasn't just "your" neighbor, it had to be your "white" neighbor.

Well, no one would believe a black neighborhood would call the cops.

All the drama and using the race card made it hard to read

Yeah, and "town that is majority white". That's nearly every freaking town in the United States, you race mongering blowhard.

I recently had my car broken into. Didn't really need the eyewitness to tell me the make and model of the thief, already knew that it was a black teen BECAUSE THATS JUST WHO BREAKS INTO CRAP AND STEALS.

Look, WHITE mentally ill men shoot us schools and public places. Is that an offense statement for me,a white dude? No, it's just a fact. (Also those Muslim loonies)

It's all a plan to make white people out to be monsters..They might not like the monsters they make.

Is it really racism? Or is it more incompetent, ignorant officers?

EDIT: I'm not saying it's impossible there's a racial issue here. But how many officers have you asked about the law, and how many have answered? I'm 0 for 3 so far. All declined to answer.

Exactly. She had to bring race into it, but this incident is not a racial issue. It's a militaristic police issue. Man calls cops on possible break in. Cops show up in large number, overreact, draw guns, treat people badly, etc. "Standard Operating Procedure."

Would they have continued to be as agressive after she came out if she was white? Would 16 cars showed up if the dispatcher said a white person was breaking into an appartment?

The article does imply racism as the root of the neighbour's assumption, and incompetence of the officers' actions, or both.

It's infuriating to read about another unjustified powertrip. After noticing a lot of these kinds of events, the US government does seem to want these kinds of rifts polarizing its citizens. For regular people it seems the easiest to pinpoint their issues on extreme forces shoving their society: no accountability, not wanting to aid citizens respectfully, racism...

These issues are being around for a long time, and it seems to me all kinds of nuances are purposefully ignored by law-making, and -enforcing entities in order to create extreme viewpoints where no room for interpretation is supposed to exist. Regular people will thus be mad at the extreme issues, and have no time/motivation left to propose an alternate viewpoint. It's an "If you're not with it, you're against it"-issue, which is a logical fallacy, in this article it feels like: if it's not police incompetence, it's racism, or vice-versa.

What do you think?

Finally, a reasonable answer that isn't based on an emotional kneejerk reaction.

Likely near a donut shop and 1 got sent to the call. The other 18 were bored.

How about an incompetant race baiter who is dumb enough to lock themselves out of their apartment, not call a locksmith, and apparently have no trust from their neighbours?

Idk if this is a troll thing but this person really stresses when someones white and the whole thing was written like a story .. Idk of any proof backing this persons claims up?

while that's a reasonable question, this does have enough details to suggest it's true. Also, the story is not at all surprising - this is exactly what I'd expect from Santa Monica PD (and LAPD).

Yup, not saying that race could not have been a factor in this whole thing, but the police deciding to respond to every incident with maximum force is definitely the main cause.

This isn't about race.

It's about someone being so socially isolated that they don't know who their own neighbors are.

And that some cops in America are incredibly ignorant.

"...I tried to separate them from the system that had terrified me. I realized that if I needed help, I didn’t think I could ask them for it." - From the article

Regardless of the reasoning, whether it be race or militaristic policing, that's what sucks the most. No one innocent person should have to feel unsafe around cops, but unfortunately, that's what it has come to.

Edit: @CallASpadeASpade made a good point.

dude, most people feel unsafe around cops. if you don't, that is a good sign that you are considered more valuable in society than others.

Anyone with a fully functioning brain is uncomfortable around cops. That's the point of the police, to make everyone so scared that they won't even think of exercising any freedom / rights.

At least you know you live in a nice neighborhood. I wish 19 policemen would show up when my apartment is being broken into.
