As much as I would love to dance on reddit's corpse (hell hath no fury like a nerd scorned), I think reddit will still be around for a while yet. Most of the users I know access reddit for cat pictures, not for anything meaningful. Yao will continue to roll out her feminist pinkwashing agenda and 90% of the users will never know the difference.
I think an exodus has begun, though. The few users I know who have expressed frustration with the site want to leave but haven't found anything that can replace it. I'm feeling good about Voat, but I also felt good about Hubski until it became clear that the userbase was, if anything, MORE femisocialist than reddit's userbase. (In fairness to Hubski's community, I never got shouted down for expressing dissenting views but it was pretty obvious that the conversation had a forgone conclusion.)
My prediction is that reddit's former active userbase (i.e. pre-DIGG migration) will splinter into various reddit alternatives like Voat and Hubski, and reddit itself will continue to garner passive users who want GIFs of funny cats drinking Mountain Dew(R).

I'm sure it will. After all, there are still vbulletin forums, and DIGG is still active. I meant that the quality of the site's content will take a nosedive rather than the site will cease to exist.

Ah, I see. I agree--I think the quality already has nose-dived, and it'll only get more asinine as the active, insightful users abandon the site for greener pastures.

Gotta say, I like the current iteration oh Digg. It's like, if you're going to regulate the content on the site, and sell out articles, at least be transparent about it.
Yeah, you'll typically find stuff on there 12hrs after you see it on reddit, but as much as I typically surf reddit (now voat) I miss a lot of it. New Digg is kinda like cliff notes for shit you may have missed.

I disagree that people won't notice. Their own examples there show that people who moderate some of the more socially acceptable subreddits are also moderating porn and gore subreddits. People will notice the bans because a LOT of subscribers are have a kink or fetish or some other socially unacceptable diversion which they indulge in through Reddit. When the site starts banning those people are going to want alternatives that allow them to have access to the mainstream topics and their less acceptable hobbies all through the same platform.

Interesting point. I don't know that that will hold true over time though. I think the new business model of reddit is to pull in extremely casual users via highly moderated distraction-type subreddits (/r/aww, /r/gifs, /r/pics etc.) and phone apps. There will be a few "serious" subreddits among the defaults so the non-casuals still feel like they're a step above Buzzfeed, but even those "serious" subreddits will be highly curated and censored.
I think the users you're referring to WILL notice, but they will soon be in the minority and moving on/supplementing reddit with other sites.
This opinion is based on nothing other than my own observations and assumptions though. I could be totally wrong.

Huh. You may be right. I never bothered to learn those features because I didn't want to use them.
