Reddit is slowly DIGGing itself. Censorship is worse than ever, and the Admins and site leadership don't seem to care. Reddit is moving further away from a platform supporting free speech and free participation and moving further towards a heavily moderated message forum. We're headed to the eventuality of any new subreddit requiring approval by admins before it's created.
Aggregate voting was always what was most special about places like DIGG and Reddit, and what set them apart from your average VBulletin message boards of the late '90s and early 2000s. But Reddit survived for as long as it did by not only sticking to their aggregate algorithm (changing it is what killed DIGG), but putting a strong emphasis on free participation and low moderation. Anybody can create an aggregate forum. But what made Reddit special is being challenged by the site's current leadership. I wouldn't be surprised if, two years from now, the site has gone far downhill under Ellen Yao's leadership. It's already begun to happen.

As much as I would love to dance on reddit's corpse (hell hath no fury like a nerd scorned), I think reddit will still be around for a while yet. Most of the users I know access reddit for cat pictures, not for anything meaningful. Yao will continue to roll out her feminist pinkwashing agenda and 90% of the users will never know the difference.
I think an exodus has begun, though. The few users I know who have expressed frustration with the site want to leave but haven't found anything that can replace it. I'm feeling good about Voat, but I also felt good about Hubski until it became clear that the userbase was, if anything, MORE femisocialist than reddit's userbase. (In fairness to Hubski's community, I never got shouted down for expressing dissenting views but it was pretty obvious that the conversation had a forgone conclusion.)
My prediction is that reddit's former active userbase (i.e. pre-DIGG migration) will splinter into various reddit alternatives like Voat and Hubski, and reddit itself will continue to garner passive users who want GIFs of funny cats drinking Mountain Dew(R).

I'm sure it will. After all, there are still vbulletin forums, and DIGG is still active. I meant that the quality of the site's content will take a nosedive rather than the site will cease to exist.

I disagree that people won't notice. Their own examples there show that people who moderate some of the more socially acceptable subreddits are also moderating porn and gore subreddits. People will notice the bans because a LOT of subscribers are have a kink or fetish or some other socially unacceptable diversion which they indulge in through Reddit. When the site starts banning those people are going to want alternatives that allow them to have access to the mainstream topics and their less acceptable hobbies all through the same platform.

It doesn't help when they're getting talking points from SRS mods, arguably the most hate filled subreddit out there. Then you have Ellen who's the ultimate fem slime ball pushing her agenda of "I fuck who I want and that should mean promotions."
It's getting ugly over there.

Multiple SRS admins. The description of SRS presented in the article was laughable too.

I just joined voat today. One of the biggest reasons I joined is because all the drama between reddits, which involves a lot of closed minded thinking. I've bounced around from the redpill, to kia, to srs, and one thing I can't stand is how censorship minded EVERY subreddit is. The real problem isn't feminism or srs or the redpill- I realized long ago as an atheist the problem I have with the censorship on reddit is the problem I have with all these sjw or anti sjw movements. It's the same problem I have with strick religions to misquote the movie Dogma "Beliefs are dangerious. They don't change. But having and idea- that van be subject to change." Ideaologies like social justice or redial feminism, or even the redpill bother the shit outta me because they look at the world through there own specific frame work without much flexability. It's like a fundimental religion that cannot allow free though as there is a fear of it "poisoning" the message - ideology is what's turning me away from reddit. Reading dworkins and srs quotes piss me off. Yet dispite that, I still want her to be able to express that- a sentiment she expresses displeasure in letting others have because of her idealology. Maybe thus is just my American upbrining, but I believe that speach- even speach you disagree with- should be allowed. After all, if one day the people in power decided what I'm saying is worth censorship, no matter how popular it is now- you'll get censorship like your seeing on reddit. That's the major reason I joined voat. I'm terrified of posting on there because of how ban happy, doxxing friendly reddit is. The administration are going for censorship control and giving certain user free regine, and it scares the shit outta me. This is the first time I've felt safe posting in almost a year- the environment is terrifing to many lurkers. I'm just waiting for subreddit approval to take shape and watch voat explode.

True but who's to say the same wont happen to voat?
