There's no way to guarantee he'll get a fair trial. Is he supposed to just take the government's word for it?

He should get the guarantee of the American people.

"If the government doesn't give you a fair trial they're not going to be our government anymore."

The majority of people I know think he is a traitor and should be shot on sight.

There's a lot more stupid out there than anyone would like to admit.

All they have to do is completely ignore the US constitution! Of course the government does it too, so maybe they wouldn't mind.

You know -- I wouldn't be surprised by anything. That's a truly amazing fellow, Edward Snowden. To see him come back to this country and face a fair trial -- I think it could set off a revolution.

Is that before or after his plane goes down mysteriously over the Iron Dome?

I think it could set off a revolution.

Yeah, sure, unless it interferes with March Madness, the Superbowl or whatever dumbass television show they're watching.

I think that the majority are still too uninformed about the truth of what Snowden did to care about what happens to him.

I don't think his trial will be fair IMO. The government will probably throw around state secrets a bunch instead of actual facts.

Just to add to that, the Espionage Act was (purportedly) intended to provide legal means for dealing with spies, yet it has been used against whistleblowers, and it will be used against Edward Snowden. Government and media have already painted him as a spy, as has been done to other whistleblowers. He will not get a fair trial. If he does return to the U.S. for trial, I think that the mainstream media will either ramp up the spying allegations or blackout the trial, according to public reaction. The big irony here is that government agencies such as the NSA are the actual spies.

Why would he trust any assurance from the US Gov? Cold comfort that your government will assure you that they won't seek your death following trial. Understand wanting to come "home" but what a choice.

I completely sympathize with wanting to come back to the US. I can only imagine how difficult it would be living in Moscow all this time given the current relationship between Russia and America. But a fair trial.. Ohh dear.. Not a chance. I fear they'll bury him deeper than Chelsea Manning. I would also like to see some sort of revolution, but the speed and efficiency in which they threw Manning under the bus I don't hold much hope for Edward Snowden. I suppose it is possible though? I honestly believe the reason Manning was so vilified and forgotten was that they really played up the transgender thing and sadly a lot of hillbilly Americans are still not okay with Transgenderism.

Totally agree and do you remember what happened right after the Torture Report was released? The big scandal with the SONY Hack and The Interview screening debacle totally dominated the headlines complete with made-up threats from North Korea. Then it was American Sniper and everyone went all Hoorah, U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A and now it's a Tuesday. (Small Street Fighter reference with the Tuesday remark.) ;-)

Fat chance of that trial ever happening. Any classified evidence submitted by the defense will not be entered into the court record due to national security reasons.

After the whole debacle of them finding one of the guantanamo detainees innocent in a civilian court, there's no possible way he'll get a civilian trial, or any trial, he'll just disappear.
