If any single male specimen exists, then the odds are that this specimen is not the only such specimen in the world. If it is the last remaining male, the odds of that male being able to or likely to restart a population, while alive and undisturbed, drop precipitously. As such, this is hardly worth outcry, and should be hailed instead as a good thing. Study of this bird could reveal such important things such as habitat locations, diet, and reproductive health of the entire species.
