Let me guess - another "gun-free" zone?

One man with a gun could of put a stop to all of this. When will these liberals learn?

CNN is reporting school staff actively stopped a group of veterans attempting to stop the shooter. Not onlyt is the school a gun free zone, it's policy apparently insists that nobody is allowed to help.

Thats like a doctor saying "Just wait until you develop the flu, and then take this medicine."

How about we work on prevention, instead of turning mental illness into a pro-gun issue?

I own guns btw, but goddamn...the solution here was mental help, not firearms.

Incorrect

Students who have proper paperwork are allowed to carry guns on campus. Oregon is one of seven states where lawmakers have said people with concealed weapons permits must be allowed to bring concealed weapons onto campus.

the school's policy:

“Possession, use, or threatened use of firearms (including but not limited to BB guns, air guns, water pistols, and paint guns) ammunition, explosives, dangerous chemicals, or any other objects as weapons on college property, except as expressly authorized by law or college regulations, is prohibited."

the definition of gun free zone, from wikipedia:

The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) is a federal United States law that prohibits any ** unauthorized ** individual from knowingly possessing a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone

also: Paul Morgan, a professor at the college, just confirmed to Wolf Blitzer that firearms are not allowed on campus, including among security guards.

just curious, and not trying to start anything. how would you respond to the statement that in europe and asia, where there are barely any guns, there are hardly any gun deaths, when in america, where almost everyone can get a gun, gun deaths are much more prevalent?

also, what do you think about limited magazine size or a ban on only assault and semi automatic weapons that are clearly meant for human deaths and not hunting?

again, not trying to start anything, just curious.

eh only if they have a CCW license, if you hand a gun to every liberal on campus they would start shooting every time someone "raped them by looking at them"

I wish the one guy had gotten mental help so nobody needed a gun. But I guess we can keep waiting for shootings instead of trying to prevent them.

I swear I'm the only gun owner who doesn't fantasize about opportunities to shoot other humans.

assualt rifles have been baned since 1986

2nd amendment rights were never intended for hunting

semi automatic weapons are used for sporting purposes only .004% of guns in america are used for murder infact knives are used 5x as often in murders. Even if the number of gun murders was way higher i would still support gun rights.

[–] Echo_of_Savages 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Modern society has made it increasingly difficult to find meaning in life. We as humans have evolved to hunt everyday to feed ourselves and our family. We have evolved to pursue goals in order to survive. Well what happens when those meaningful goals erode away and are replaced wtih artificial ones? What happens when your worth is determined by your bank account, or by how attractive your wife is? And what happens when you realize that these artificial goals are pure bullshit?

It takes a strong will to find meaning in modern life, to find The Real in a world full of fakes. And thus, its understandable for a weak-willed boy to lash out against a society which he feels is applying too much pressure in obtuse ways. I don't condone his actions at all, but it makes sense.

I implore all of you to do something positive with your lives. Learn some skills, stop staring at your screen for a moment and go outside, make some new friends. For real, this internet thing is a fucking black hole, these screens are destroying our humanity from the inside out, and being sucked in for too long can mess with your head. Especially you young guys.

Here is what's happening -

Killers are turned into celebrities. Massive news coverage for days, weeks, even months. Movies. Books. It's ridiculous. Psychologists have already begged the media to stop this garbage but it continues anyway. This only encourages this kind of behavior.

Areas where no firearms or weapons are allowed are easy targets. Do you hear about shootings at gun ranges? Of course not. Malls, movie theaters, colleges - these places have a lot of people and no guns. If you're a sociopath looking to kill people, it's like fish in a barrel. All they can do is swim about while you shoot at them. You have artificially created a low risk, high reward area for this kind of thing.

There's a very good reason that police stations are not robbed regularly. They're full of all kinds of things criminals really want, but for some reason they never get robbed.

Gun free zones, on the other hand, are a free-range criminal paradise.

Same here. It's not a freak accident but it's so random and unpredictable. Everyone will play Monday morning quarterback on what "coulda', shoulda" been done to prevent it. How one person could ruin the lives and families of so many others is just so selfish.

Yeah! We need to create some sort of agency that monitors all of our phone calls, emails, online activity, and porn habits. It'd be a national or international organization, involved with security, and led by an administrator. If only we had some sort of safeguard like that in place, it would have been able to prevent a tragedy like this. No question about it, we should shut down all image boards and social media sites, can't have losers and the mentally ill supporting one another after all.

You sure about that? http://www.oregonlive.com/education/index.ssf/2015/10/where_is_roseburg_oregon_what.html

EDIT:

I think I found the right answere here, which is as usual, somewhere in the middle.

http://www.armedcampuses.org/oregon/

In an Oregon Court of Appeals case (2011), three judges concluded that Oregon public colleges and universities no longer have authority to ban weapons on the physical grounds of a campus. Each school does however, have discretion as to whether to permit concealed handguns inside buildings, dormitories, event centers, and classrooms. Private colleges and universities may still prohibit weapons throughout the entire campus including grounds.

So public schools can't ban you from having them on the grounds, but they do have the authority to prohibit them in buildings unless you're licensed.

Great. We got another Elliot Roger from the looks of that 4chan page. Now I'll have a month of idiots trying to explain to me how this was my fault because I read a book on PUA seven years ago and once asked that girl out in that bar.

Edit: If you're interested, PUA isn't the cause for this sort of tantrum; it's in fact the best cure for it. Nothing gets guys away from anger and entitlement like accepting that it's all a game, getting good at said game, and getting laid for real.

is it really a mental health "problem" if someone is going to 4chan to have free speech, and the government is cracking down on free speech? where are the legal prostitutes? where are the outlets for people like him? if the normal pointless crap of life is unsatisfying and all satisfying avenues are closed can we say it is the individual who is to blame for cracking under this pressure? where is the government's role in preserving freedom so that the individual can work towards their personal goals (as opposed to the goals prescribed to us by other people)?

Most of the mass shooters of the last two decades were young males. No females, no old dudes, no latinos, no blacks (talking only about the shootings that shock the country, not the ones that happen daily that no one cares about), young white, and one asian, males. Think about that for a second.

We do, in that mental health care is incredibly unaffordable and inaccessible for people who need it. Even with insurance, with a therapy visit once a week, a psychiatrist visit once a month, and medications, your monthly cost can easily exceed a thousand dollars per month. If you work minimum wage and have a POS car and live with your parents rent free and costs free, you'd be lucky to be able to afford it. It's about 200 bucks a day to stay in a mental health facility. What working class family can afford that?
