Oh fuck off! I couldn't earn a single college scholarship because I was a white girl from a rural environment. The high school I attended under-performed in every category and I had to spend the first year of jr. college taking remedial classes to catch up. However, because I was not black - no one cared. I was told I just didn't "apply myself". Fast forward 15 years later to this summer: new baby, husband gets cancer and looses job. Everywhere we applied for help could't assist us. Most aid was earmarked for Latino families only. When we started applying for affordable housing programs one administrator actually said, if I approve you for this housing unit it is only for three people. I'm taking away from someone like a large Hispanic family who will squeeze six people into the same unit. They need our help more". I've got two jobs I'm waiting to hear back from, if I do not land a job, we loose our apartment at the end of October. Fuck your privilege. My entire life I've been fucked over because I was poor and NOT a minority. It's not 'obstacles" its real fucking obstacles. I'm not mad that I'm poor, I'm mad because I've paid into the same system and because I'm not a minority I'm considered arbitrarily less needy. Even in the job market I have no white privilege. I worked in non-profit administration, suddenly you have to speak Spanish for everything.
