Wow, an amazing article. I've been saying this for over a year now, but this puts it in a much more elegant way.

While reading the article I decided to check out what the term "Rage Profiteers" hyperlinked to and it turned out to be another great article from last year, same author:

Rage Profiteers: How Bloggers Harness Our Anger For Their Own Gain

Some people trigger SJWs because they just don't give a fuck. But these people trigger the SJWs for profit, and the SJWs love them for it.

"There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people with lit matches"

Though I do find it ironic that we require kids to read this book in high school and just a few years (or months) later, they’re leading the charge on exactly the kind of well-intentioned censorship Bradbury was talking about.

That's because most of them didn't read it really. They bought cliff notes, or scanned through the chapters(at best) to get enough out of it to pass a test. But they didn't read it, they didn't absorb the ideas inside it.

It's not some unthinkable dystopia anymore. It's like reading Stranger in a Strange Land and making fun of it because of hovercars. There is a generation that will be literally born into our domestic spying program. It loses poignancy when we are functionally already there.

Or their teachers are incompetent liberal hypocrites and teach them "this is what happens when fundies burning lesbian childrens books get in power" despite the fact libfags censor hundreds of times as much speech.

Teachers have to be liberals. You couldn't get a conservative to trade in a high-paying job for something like teaching. The irony is that conservatives keep teachers liberal by opposing paying teachers real money. LOL.

Somebody should reply to the U.N. article citing this article. Why is all the "news" about thought police today? Doesn't anything actually news worthy happen in the world anymore?

Well Voat does post/upvote articles on this subject a lot [not that it is a bad thing at all]. That's probably why the news here seems to reflect that theme

Southpark did an episode about this after the danish muhamed cartoon riots. basically, if you remove ll things that offend all people - then you have nothing left for anyone.

And before you get offended, let’s clarify what Bradbury means by minorities. He’s not talking about race. He’s talking about it in the same way that Madison and Hamilton did in the Federalist Papers. He’s speaking about small, interested groups who try to force the rest of the majority to adhere to the minority’s set of beliefs.

So: muslims in western countries, then.

more like the LGBT. They account for maybe 1-2% of the population yet we have parades in almost every major city. The supreme court has had several cases. They blog. Films now must include a LGBT character to not offend. TV shows must have the token gay or trans person. There must be unisex bathrooms. And so on. This small percentage has done a lot more than muslims. Who do account for 32% of the world.

I don't think anyone would stop you from having a parade celebrating dick-on-vagina.

[–] InDifferent 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

Nah, I don't think so. Well... not in the long run at least. Sure, things might become more politically correct in the immediate future, but there will be a push-back against that culture resulting in another round of things like Jerry Springer, Howard Stern, South Park, and WWE's Attitude Era.

[–] derbyvoice71 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

and WWE's Attitude Era

And if you're not down with that, I got two words for ya ... and they aren't trigger warning.

It's going to take a combination of free-speech liberals, libertarians and conservatives to put their foot down and say enough. Those of us with kids going into college and the job world in the next few years have to be the vanguard. It's time to crash the helicopter parents folks.

I think that push-back has already started. These people have no sense of proportion, so they go overboard about every little thing, and as a result people are already getting tired of listening to their whining. The pendulum is still swinging their direction, but it's slowing down.
