>...then a few hours later a site called Voat, based in Switzerland, was formed...

You have to be fucking kidding me.

Right, Atko apparently has a time machine and he is hiding it from us all. So unfair and down right selfish of him. /s

That's lazy journalism for ya.

Or just Russian journalism...

This is really getting tiring, with one site continuing to reference the same quotes over and over again. Like I said in another post, this is turning out to be an echo chamber.

I agree. I'm really fascinated by how a single biased and unresearched article gets tossed arround with almost no edits...

Feminist works fast. They know if they are the first one to put an idea out there, doesn't matter if it's true or not, lazy "journalist" will just copy and paste while citing it as a source.

Especially if the source is something reputable like the Washington Post.

If anyone doesn't know this yet, I hope they are learning it now. The corporate media is the single greatest enemy of the people!

But it's still publicity for Voat :D

Personally it's quite shocking to experience it in action. I mean, I've never been a fool, I know that all these people go to the same place to enjoy a good round of golf but to see it in action like this is in some way unbelievable.

I'm not even going to read it this time. I had a feeling that it would be the exact same article as the last two (just with the words slightly rearranged) and your post just confirmed that. I'm not in any way hopeful that 'sputniknews' is anything to take seriously anyway.

Wrong or not, this article led me here. There is no bad publicity.

That article reads like it was handed in as a Grade 8 social studies assignment.

I'm really happy for this website but I still have in the back of my mind:

What's stopping this website from ending up like reddit?

I'm not sure many people could see this coming from 1-2 years back. Any veterans from reddit have any insight on this? I'd love to believe this site is free, but the fact its so similar to reddit makes me think it's fated for the same path

It's a cycle. Empires rise and fall, benevolent governments become corrupt and are overthrown, and great websites turn to shit to be replaced by new ones. I don't expect voat to be good forever. I only expect it to be good right now. When voat starts suffering from the same problems as Digg and Reddit, I'll go somewhere else.

The important thing to remember is that as long as there are people who believe in protecting free speech, free speech will exist somewhere. There will always be somewhere else to go. And there's really nothing like going to a brand new community, free of all the bloat and the deadfall, and starting anew with people who can appreciate it as much as you can.

Any other sites that I should look out for, you seem in the know?

The folks who made Voat are taking suggestions on how to improve Voat. You can go to the stickied thread and add your own suggestions, including ways you think might be useful to curtail the influx of SJWs and Eternal Septembers. For example, you might come up with the perfect voting system to put an end to these shenanigans - if so, share it! Do it now and be immortalized in Voating history forever! Or probably not, but anything that stops Voat from becoming reddit is a good thing.
