They've always made fun of the PC culture during the 18 years they've been airing (remember when Mr. Garrison had a sex change?). They even mention how the PC bullshit "...lasted about 6 years last time."

That 'six years' line was a high point for me. They know it well because they had to work through it twenty years ago.

Yep the early to mid 90's were the last time the PC craze was going strong.

I wonder who's going to be our Andrew Dice Clay this time around.

What "6 years" were they talking about?

PC first became a big deal in the late 80's and early 90's.

There was a huge backlash though, which is why shows like "Politically Incorrect" became popular (and why they chose that title).

After "PC" became a pejorative punchline it sorta went away and has for the last few decades, but over the last 2-3 years it's making a fierce comeback.

Social media is enabling faux outrage and sanctimony once again.

I've heard the late '80s/early '90s was pretty PC. I wouldn't know firsthand though.

Go watch the movie "PCU" when you get a chance, it's all about that early 90's PC craze at the University level. It's hilarious, by the way.

The best thing about this is that when all these people start ranting about something in the episode they are taking the roll of exactly what south park is making fun of. The whole episode revolved around these 'PC' characters overreacting to something as stupid as spokesman vs spokesperson(especially wonderful as it truly was a spokesman being referenced by cartman) and when they rant about something like that they are exactly what south park is parodying.

The way PC culture is they really aren't parodying it at all. There are tumblrinas out there who act like that, which has to be the best part for me.

Well minus the "dude-bro" thing, SJWs hate that shit so I'm hoping that's a subtle shot at them. They love using bro in their mock insults when pretending to be bigots or rapists.

I'm not a fan of South Park, but I love the social commentary, especially when their targets take the bait, hook, line and sinker. The irony never seems to sink in when the target speaks up to "defend themselves" or justify their motives, and Trey Parker/Matt Stone can just point to them and say "see?".

How do they not understand they're taking the bait?

Meanwhile Matt and Trey are probably sharing popcorn with their staff while they gain material for next week's episode.

The best episodes of South Park ate the ones where they are making fun of things that are so stupid, that just showing it as is is funnier than anything they could possibly write. The scientology episode comes to mind.

Notice the part where Cartman is trying to blackmail PC Principal by dunking Butter's underwear in the urinal he just pissed into... now notice that PC Principal DIDN'T react to that negatively like "OMG I'm not a pedo" - no, in fact he focuses on spokesman instead... a little nod to SJWs standing with Dunham and Butts even though they are pederasts and pedophiles, respectively...

Then proceeds to kick the shit out of Cartman, like the I stand with Dunham/Butts crowd did to people pointing out that Dunham/Butts are fucked up pedos.

People of the internet! Gather as much popcorn as you can; for there's not enough to go around this time.

As a person of few economic means I'm appalled that you could be so careless as to exercise your privilege by hoarding the supply of popcorn from the less fortunate people in the world. What about those who don't have thin privilege and can't just eat a bunch of popcorn because they are forced to try to adhere to your conventional beauty standards? I'm glad you enjoy sitting in your ivory tower of privilege you don't deserve on your stolen land and micro-aggressing people who's shoes who you have never walked in. You are not my slave master any more. Bigots like you are becoming extinct like you deserve and when that happens we'll teach you what oppression feels like and you'll pay for the crimes your ancestors committed.

Enjoy your popcorn while you can with your bigot cracker friends pinky because a new day is dawning.

Edit: /s such a pleasant bunch of folks.

That was one of the finest works I've seen come out of Matt and Trey. I'm concerned about the comment at the of the article saying PC Principal is set to be a recurring character on the show. What do you guys think?

I think it will have continuity like last season and that the kids will have their revenge. I mean seriously Kyles speech at the end was just so they would stop bothering them. Looking forward to what cartman is gonna do this season.

[–] Cid 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Cartman is no fool. I think he sees what a threat they are (especially after the unjust beating). I really hope there's an arc leading to his standardly evil and diabolical revenge. I think he knows he can't take them on head on.

They have been aiming for for continuity and substory arcs lately. While I have a hard time seeing him being the main focus at any point for the rest of the season, I have an equally hard time not seeing him have meaningful interactions with the SP world as well.

I'm glad I can still count on Matt Stone + Trey Parker to pull through even after people like Colbert fell to the PC crowd.

Reading the author describe the episode made me forget it was funny. I understand that some things are hard to write about. The line "writing about music is like dancing about architecture" comes to mind, then I remembered this isn't improv jazz, it's just lazy writing.

People getting upset at one mild episode of South Park have obviously not watched much South Park. They make fun of everything, especially topics that one side gets all worked up about little issues.

[–] The_Exodite 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

18 previous seasons where NOTHING had been sacred!

That, and the way they deconstruct these issues so logically and hilariously is why I will always be a big fan of their work.

I love it, I was wondering a while back if South Park were going to broach the PC culture and I'm delighted they have. The SJWs will go down in history as a hilarious fad. The more exposure they get, the more rational people notice how ludicrous they are.
