The thing does look kind of "bomb-like" if you're not versed in real bombs.

The real problem is that the school, when Ahmed said "it's a clock" didn't say "oh, our bad." Or "we're still not sure what it is, so we're going to have the police check it out." And then apologized profusely.

The fact that they aren't doing this and are being defended by "zero tolerance" policy advocates is the real travesty here.

I've said this in every thread on the topic and no one has argued against it yet:

The fact that they did not evacuate the school demonstrates that they knew it was not a bomb.

Even then come on. It's two circuit boards, a display, a transformer a d cord. Nothing in there that could be mistaken as an explosive material .Add to that the engineering teacher could ID every part .Unless he's also invoked in the bomb making .

I would advice anyone who has to decide if something is a bomb or not to look for non digital parts, a bunch of unidentified electronics does not mean anything (electronic identification is hard). What you are looking for is one large or several smaller packages that contain an unidentified solid (and reasonably uniform) or liquid material. Without this you the worst it do is spark menacingly.

Why the fuck does a clock look like this?

I disagree with your first sentence, but the rest of your post is spot on. This shit should have died down before it hit the cops, and the cops should have killed it once it reached them. The fact that every authority involved is doubling down on their idiocy is fucking retarded.

It's okay to not know shit. Everyone ever is ignorant about almost everything ever. Trying to cover up your ignorance through malicious prosecution (/persecution) is evil. Not just wrong, or bad, or mean, or possibly bigoted, it's actually evil.

I posted this elsewhere but will share here too.

Look at it in comparison to the size of the plug, it is a small 6x9 pencil case.

A lot like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Vaultz-Locking-Pencil-Inches-VZ01479/dp/B001BXZ28K

It is only "bomb like" because people think Hollywood is real life.

Why the fuck would someone make a clock and put it in a case like that for a reason other to make it look like a bomb. And then to "show it off at school"? Then national media attention with the father a connected polical figure in Pakistan? Something is fucky

I've seen pictures of the clock and you would have to be a huge retard to think it was a bomb.

They basically just told him, "We always thought you were a terrorist all along."

Be careful. I fully support the kid and think the administration and police probably made a bad call, but we only have the narrative of the kid, his family, and any lawyer working for them. The school is prohibited from commenting. If the kid did somehow misbehave, lead them to believe it was an explosive, obstruct the police, or any other action, the school wouldn't be allowed to say. I'm skeptical that they actually did say things exactly according to the article.

I think the real issue here is how dumb this kid's teachers and principal were

No!

The teacher and principal err'd on the side of caution when a Muslim child presented what appeared to be a suitcase bomb.

Seriously, what's with the stupid hashtag? Who the fuck would stand against him other than an inept school administrator making a knee-jerk reaction to naked consumer electronics? How can this be some SocJus slacktivist crusade when everyone's on one side?

Wait until it comes out that this kid was being a little asshole and make a clock that looks like a bomb and was fucking around pretending it was a bomb. 14 year old kids are notorious for being shitheads.

This just happened. I'm withholding judgment, too. The media and social media are too quick to report things without checking every angle first.

I teach 9th graders. Boys this age do things that make no sense. No logic. If you ask them why....they don't know. The brain of a teenage boy is a crazy ass mystery.

Joke? No, it's very serious business to the very rich people who run the media narrative.

Now calm down...we're all one big, happy human family! peace, love and tolerance*!

Because it looks scary and that doesn't fit the story they want.

It is also just a torn apart clock, not homemade or a kit, ruining the 'he's so smart' story they want.

He wasn't charged or arraigned...

It's because the police left the door open to file charges instead of definitively saying "no, this is stupid" is why you have outrage a day later.

Also because of the initial article saying that one of the cops "knew" that it was going to be "that" kid.

Every single positive thing a Muslim does is worthy of a worldwide media circlejerk while every AllahuAkbarist beheading some innocent bloke is "not a real Muslim TM". Just goes to show how little positive stuff these savages are responsible for.

This. One Nobel prize won by a muslim in 700 years. They contribute nothing to civilized society and do everything in their power to destroy everything they touch.

[–] guinness2 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Here's why:

  • Muslim are synonymous with terrorist bombings and generally acting like violent animals;

  • Muslim kid builds a suitcase bomb looking device that force the principal to err on the side of caution;

  • Muslim parents sue for hurt feelings because civilized people followed sensible precautions;

  • Muslim family profits!

No he was just accused of a crime, handcuffed at school, marched down the hall and out the school in front of his classmates and held in juvenile detention for hours.

It's traumatizing.

TBH, diy-stuff with digital clock or a timer can and may be interpreted as "bomb-like". So the teacher freaking out can be justified to some extent. However, their (teachers, school officials and police) reaction is so bad it shows how inept they are to handle situation like this.

If they think it was a bomb, they should've call the local authority's bomb expert and follow the advise of that expert. But no, they just interrogated the kid, put the diy clock aside and then cuff the kids. All of this is happening while the all the students are still in school. Really bad call for them.

What I really hate in all of these is not the incompetence of the teachers and the local authorities, but the blatant famewhores jumping into another #faux-battlecry. Seriously? Suddenly, all of these famewhores shouting and clamoring for supporting kids who love science. Suddenly, they love geeks and nerds. Also not all issues or problems are rooted from bigotry, some of them are due to incompetency and stupidity. So please stop making it a race or religion issue.
