I agree with you! If you as an institution aren't helping the needy then, you aren't a church.

You aren't a Christian church. Because to be Christian is to be like Christ, which is to help the needy. The church of Baphomet I don't expect to help the needy. I do expect Christ-like churches to. I don't expect most self-professed lowercase T wearing 'Christians' to. I'm not disagreeing with your intent, just a clarification. Not all churches care about the needy.

What impresses you most, Bergoglio's magical super powers, his raging bigotry against woman and homosexuals or his stolen treasures and child sex crime syndicate?

I'm personally impressed by his ability to lie: not even the most arrogant research scientist would claim to know for sure how the universe was created, however Bergoglio does - he knows the universe was made from magical woo-woo.

I'm impressed that he is willing to be taxed. Property taxes alone on the Catholic Church would really help out with municipal budgets.

If he is sincere about this he should open the books of every parish, see how much is donated by each and declare that surpluses are taxed. Then we'll really see how much the church can spend for the needy.

What you are roughly saying seems to be this:

"Anything less than a complete and total reversal of all the wrongs ever done means there is no progress at all"

This is a common line of those who hate all religion, in any form, to any degree. That's not how progress works, FYI.

1 man in a few years cannot be expected to remediate an millennia of wrongs done by many thousands. He is doing a good job.

You know how I KNOW he is doing a damned fine job? The far right are in fucking spasms over his reforms.

Pope is right-if they behave like a business than you should be treated like one too.

Same rule should apply to Labor Unions-if they behave like political party than they should be treated like one.

Following that line of thinking much of GOP should be renamed Democratic Party, large part of current Democratic Party becomes Socialist Party etc.

That should clear a lot of misunderstandings and prevent a lot of mistakes.

Liberals should rename themselves social marxists.

I often get labelled a liberal, but I'm not a social marxist.

Fiscally conservative people who hate central banks should be renamed Democrats (in line with what the Dem party founder andrew Jackson believed)

I guess I'm a Democrat then... but I'm not a fan of the existing DNC. They're basically republican-lite.

Same rule should apply to Labor Unions-if they behave like political party than they should be treated like one.

Should that apply to corporate lobbying groups too? If all lobbying groups, corporate and union are automatically political parties, than how do we donate to political campaigns? Conflating things that aren't the same isn't helping.

Following that line of thinking much of GOP should be renamed Democratic Party

Why would you do that? They've become increasingly pro-plutocrat and authoritarian in the last 30 years, which seems true to their roots.

The GOP should be labeled Corporate Interests Political Party #1 and the Democrats should be labeled Corporate Interests Political Party #2. Neither give a fuck about you or anything you love.

I will translate to you:

"Lot of protestant churches should get their tax status removed, not Catholics tough we help the needy, look at how progressive I am."

Catholic churches operates under the Papacy, they can claim their organization is helping the needy.

This Pope statement is an attack on what he sees as Heresy, disguised as "progressiveness".

He specifically gave a catholic example in his comment, so I think you're mistaken about his intention.

Except every church can just say they do a clothing donation each month to Good Will and get their status back.

if they really wanted to make it stick they would say you lose your status if you cannot verify that over x% of the churches income goes to helping the need, with receipts and tax documents.

They should be held to exactly the same standard as a business, profit gets taxed. If they spend all the money they receive helping people, then no profit; no profit, no taxes.

Agreed.

It's disgusting to force tax payers to indirectly finance religious institutions that spread hate speech against them through tax exemptions.

Shouldn't all tax exempt organizations be up for this level of scrutiny?

Some churches genuinely help people and it causes them financial issues. I support tax exempt if you qualify to a very specific set of rules, similar to how 501C3s operate

Getting rid of a Church's tax exempt status would quickly show who has faith and who is in it for the money.

That's a bit hypocritical coming from the Vatican. They're the richest organization on earth, but no one really knows how much they actually have. Seeing as how they spend in the neighborhood of $200bn a year, assuming their assets are worth WAY into the trillions is not unreasonable.

That being said though, they do spend a tremendous amount of that on education and healthcare. That's more than can be said of many churches that exist only for their own sake.

Define needy Francis, before I start jumping to conclusions. If churches start donating to politicans or some shit calling them needy that would be fucked.

Bye Westboro Baptist Church!

He's referring to missionary work, most likely. That's easily measurable, and reportable.
