Lets be clear about this:
The officers THOUGHT the man had a gun and shot him just to be sure.

This is absolutely not appropriate and no way in hell this is "procedure".

Enough is enough. The officer (should) have training, equipment, experience and maybe some common sense. These officers can't be given weapons.

But due to being idiots, they have horrible aim. The victim lived.

The problem is they are trained that every scenario is the worst case scenario, and they react without assessing the situation. We need a law passed that will require police to only fire when fired upon, just like the military.

They aren't stupid. This is part of an intentional effort on the part of these departments to dissuade people from recording the police. They've been talking about making this part of policy and training for the better part of 2 years.

I wanted so badly to dismiss you as a conspiracy loon. Then I found myself shrugging and thinking, "ha, probably."

Now I'm very disappointed.

Moreover, if this is procedure, then procedure's fucked. And probably unconstitutional to boot.

I fearlessly predict that goodluvin has never been in a combat situation.

oh? Dealing with high stress decisions with little to no time to react and your livelihood at stake at every moment.

Every day, every day. Guaranteed you would buckle under the stress I have dealt with and continue to handle.

Almost, rather deal directly with people (like a cop) because they are easy to read. Or in this case just LOOK and see "Does he have a gun?" "Is he advancing?" list goes on...

Don't throw the "you don't understand, me" as an excuse. Clearly, these cops screwed up big time.

Edit: Happy to report, I haven't killed anyone. That will mess you up. But..... ain't no angel either. edit2: You can't handle an discussion without painting yourself in a corner.. You can't keep up with me.

with officers saying they perceived an "imminent threat" because they mistook his phone for a gun

The officers who shot at him are reportedly on paid leave

Well, now they have the free time and money to consult a much needed optometrist, at least...

I'm just glad the guy was finally white again. We need to keep some diversity in our police shootings of innocents. The last thing we'd want is to think these things are somehow racist.

Well according to the expert on all matters law enforcement Mr . /u/Biohazard, this was a justified shooting.

Move along people, nothing to see here, a panel of expert has already declared this justified, anyone who says different is retarded and your opinion is invalid because you do not claim to be a cop.

Why isn't he a Sergeant yet?

Police is trying hard to dissuade people from shooting them with a camera... and grab a gun.

Sanchez's home was searched and he was "detained briefly" for questioning, but he is not facing charges, the report said.

Ummm, why would he be? He did nothing but get shot for holding a phone.

Gotta fish for something to twist the narrative and excuse their actions. It's fucking infuriating

I'd also like to know what gave them the power to search his home when he had not committed a crime. Exigent circumstances only covers when they can show that they believed a crime was in progress or about to be committed.

Thanks for injectong some sense into this anti-cop hate fest. The situation was a very dangerous one for both cops and bystanders:

The incident happened Thursday when Sanchez's next-door neighbor, Ben Ledford, was allegedly "firing up to 100 machine gun rounds at a home across the street, killing a dog inside the house,"

I'd put money on that being scare words for "dude firing rifle rounds from a semi-auto".

[–] Gracchi 2 points 5 points (+7|-2) ago

Or the cops could stop raiding every house they can justify and stop shooti g innocent people? Oh, guess that's just too much to ask of highly trained professionals. Gotta put the onus on the highly untrained population. That totally makes sense.
