So why bother keeping those people alive?

The same reasons we don't turn retired seniors into fertilizer.

Yes, but we're all related to old people. I'm not related to any poor people.

Ehh, I don't think you'll find too many takers of that idea.

There may not be many takers, and as fucked up as the idea is, we really do need to explore why we are keeping some people alive.

Think about it, I guarantee you know at least one person in your life that just isn't going to amount to anything in life. I'm not talking about measuring by success or money, but as a person taken in whole. The kind of person who is just a total net loss. Why sould we provide medical care in their old age? Why should we do anything for a person that does nothing but leech providing nothing in return?

It can be argued that people will turn around, I am a prime example of someone that was a fuck up in their early twenties and turned things around to get a CE degree and letters of recomendations from NASA engineers/scientists by 30. But lets be honest if you make it to 40 and society can make a clear judgement call that all you are good for is keeping a jail cell warm, why should society keep feeding the hand that bites it?

I think once someone becomes about 30 years old they should be blown up in a giant laser light show.

Because, every now and then a genius is born amongst them who's mind will challenge and change human existence.
