Nothing inherently wrong, but they can have some very serious side effects in some people. They are over prescribed, both to too many people and for too long a duration, and patients are too often not adequately monitored. They are treated as a permanent solution to many problems, but most are only approved for short time use. Yes, some people will be bound to a lifetime of being medicated, it's just a fact. But most people that are put on SSRIs should also be doing intensive counseling, the drugs are invaluable in getting you to the "right place", but counseling will provide the permanent fix for many.

I'm glad they're working for you, and I hope you're in the group of people that can successfully transition off of them some day. If not, just please make sure you're taking them regularly, and report to your doctor if things don't seem right. I honestly think (but have no proof) that taking them irregularly is the trigger for many of the bad incidents related to SSRIs. It seems like that's worse than not being on them at all. But this is purely anecdotal, just from my observations of friends and family. Someone that otherwise tolerates the meds really well, skips a day or two and is suddenly very erratic, and worse off than before they were on anything at all.

tl;dr: I don't think SSRIs are directly the cause, but under some circumstances may trigger someone that is already capable.
