Thing is, a lot of the food we eat today comes from big agricultre corps, who make quite the profit while they destroy the world's land, to feed the extra 6.5 billion people than the world can handle.
These 'small time farmers' that Bill Gates talks about are usually supplying to big corps.
Giving money to the farmers as a one off is pointless. You need to convince the big corp fat cats to sacrifice a few of their 30 vacations a year to pay them more.
But good luck with that, since theirs this thing called greed.
