So the perp is the victim? That's some mental gymnastics there.

If he jerked off, would that be child molestation?

Holy shit. Do I have to pay $100,000 to my 14 year old self?

Oh.... I feel so ashamed now. I didn't know I was 14, I SWEAR I said I was 18.

If you pay $100,000 to your past self and tell him to put it in the bank or in a good stock, you could be rich now! Sure, you'd be on a list but it'd be worth it for the cash

Our taxes go to paying the interest on the national debt. The money they borrow is used to fund police.

Yep, they have to do something to justify their out-sized budget so they get their precious budget increase the next year (or else, if they're given the same budget the next year, they'll bitch about the budget being "cut"). It's a circus.

I wonder if this a result from the drop in violent crime we've had in the last 2 decades. We funded them based on the previous increase in crime, and then didn't defund when the crime rates dropped.

Or maybe crime rates haven't been dropping? But I thought they were.

[–] Wolfeh2015 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

The crime doesn't even make sense from a legal standpoint.

How can you be considered an adult, and a minor at the same time?

Either you took a picture of a minor, and should be charged as a minor. Or you took a picture of an adult, and shouldn't be charged at all.

It's all part of the legal system's plan to make everyone a criminal.

Wait until they make racial discrimination and trolling illegal. They've done it in other countries.

These people are demented.

No, they're greedy. We have privatized prisons. Privatized red-light cameras. Loads of military gear being sold to police organizations. Big corporations are making tons off of the criminalization and incarceration of every day citizens for stupid garbage.

And to take it a step further - prisoners are legal slaves. It just seems economical that the people at the top would want as many people in the country incarcerated as possible - they will take up fewer resources and provide slave labor, while also generating income within the prison industry itself. It is a pretty decent setup they have here. Just make anything you feel threatened by illegal, throw those people in prison to reduce strain on resources and get slaves. The ones still free will be scared and should toe the line. If not, throw them in prison. Repeat.

Is it any wonder that public education has more in common with prison than any other kind of institution? Its purpose is to create inmates, not citizens.

Also, remember, they keep looking for ways to justify more funding. Come in under the budget, and they'll get less the next year. When you hear about the costs of that manhunt for those two NY prisoners being so high, you have to imagine they ran the bill up a lot for that.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn spoke about the same exact thing that you're talking about now. The Soviet laws we're added to be intentionally vague. The idea being that if you made everyone technically guilty of something than you could just work the enforcement side to pick up whom ever you chose at any time and "find a reason". There wasn't anyone in the Gulags that hadn't been arrested for a crime, legally charged, put through trial, and convicted.
"Stalin realized, however, that one million prisoners were not enough to serve as a backbone for economic restructuring, so the infamous Article 58 of the Criminal Code came into being. Article 58 was broad and sweeping, its fourteen subsections designed to trap anyone into being labeled as having committed a crime against the state. Most of the subsections covered "intent," a rather vague condition."

This is definitely the direction in which we are headed. The ideal situation for an authoritarian state would be to be able to charge and jail any "undesirable" citizen at any time, for any reason, through the application of laws vague enough and broad enough to entrap pretty much anyone.

Our new era of perpetual surveillance (of our phones, our computers, our online discussions, social media, and our public lives via increasing use of NSA/SIGINT observation, warrantless spying, GPS, drones and security cameras) will only make it easier for the state to gather sufficient evidence to charge people for any applicable "crimes," and continue to feed the for-profit prison-industrial complex.

How afraid are those people of their government though? The government might be successfully conditioning people to do what they want and therefore they would not incarcerate those people

Everybody make sure you read the article, it's actually as stupid as the title sounds. They charged his girlfriend too, and she actually accepted 12 months probation for sexting with her boyfriend. The article even states they can legally have sex, just not sext each other. What kind of stupid ass dumb fuck world are we living in? Every authority involved here should be ridiculed and mocked, and should obviously have their authority removed. Idiots.

Pedophilia isn't a choice but child molestation is and shouldn't be accepted. The problem here though lies in how the law coins the term 'child molestation'.

With this kind of ruling you can get a child to send a person a nude picture of himself and then convict that person before he even gets the chance to delete it from his phone. He has seen it, he has consumed that media, he's ready for jail. Voilá, everyone can effortlessly be made a criminal.
