Excuse me? Are we not allowed to expect someone to keep their promises? Are we not allowed to become upset when people think their commitments and promises mean nothing?

I don't care if you want to have an open relationship. Go ahead, that's your right as a consenting adult. But disliking someone who cheats or thinking it reflects badly on their character doesn't even have to do with sex.

It's pretty bullshit that the business model is lying to people with the fake accounts. That's the only thing that makes me mad about the entire situation. Yeah its a site that helps people cheat, which, to some, is morally wrong. Does this mean that they should shut down? No; If this site should stop its business model then strip clubs and the like should also be shut down, which will never happen.

Ashley Madison should increase their security and stop scamming people. Otherwise, stop caring so much people!

I see it more as men want more sex than women, but thats not a surprise either. The percentage are a bit more one sided than I would have guessed though.

There are hot singles in your area, just not ones of a gender you want to have sex with.

Also the definition of "Hot" is up for debate.

To be fair, those 1,492 women had sex with 30 million male members.

I'm sure the writers of Silicon Valley could give you a fairly accurate estimate of how many and how long it would take to achieve those numbers.

So, the end game here is: You signed up to have an affair, probably found out that it was all bullshit, paid to have your account removed, they didn't remove it, and you were found out by the world.

I must do a slow clap for the Ashley Madison folks. They take ethics to a whole new low. Let's forget the infidelity portion of it all (which isn't any of our business and they may have permission from their spouses). But to take money from someone and say you removed it, but didn't, is scummy, and fraud. They are in for one hell of a lawsuit.

Knowing how ethical the company sounds, I'm sure the money is already "gone".

I can hear this story being told by so many guys..."but I didn't cheat." talking about a customer fucker.

I'd almost bet that a lot of the members signed up in a fervor of masturbation, and didn't read some sort of ToS. You can't really do what they did on that large of a scale without some kind of advisory. And now lawyer I'm aware of existing would ever give them the go-ahead to keep info they said they deleted while they were in the business of facilitating adultery. You don't have to be a lawyer to see controversy and audits coming from a mile away.

they may have permission from their spouses

If they have permission then it is, by definition, not cheating. This is a site explicitly for cheating.

You can't speak for those who were on that site and what their intentions were. Yes, the site is made for that, and it could also be part of a fantasy that people give permission to seek out.

it's going to hurt them a lot more than it hurts the men involved.

Why?

As someone with firsthand experience, the site is full of fakes/camgirl spammers and prostitutes. Cougarlife.com is owned by the same company as Ashley Madison, same story different site.

Negligible amount, but they were on a list of people heavily implied to be cheating, so they're going to take the flak.

It's like going out on a walk on a sunny day in beautiful town of Ferguson, Missouri and suddenly finding yourself in the charging front of a city-wide chimpout. You're innocent, or just wanted to see the town ravaged, not contributing to either side, but you'll most likely get maced and/or arrested and charged for rioting.

Right? Who honestly believes women need a website to line them up with men they can cheat with when dudes they meet on the street would fuck them in a heartbeat?

[–] rererert 1 point 1 point (+2|-1) ago

I also think with women they'll only cheat after developing a bond, so strangers on the internet didn't appeal to them.

So they tricked 31.5 million men into paying at least $49.99 once maybe twice with fake profiles? That's way too much money. This has to be a money laundry scheme. This is all assuming you're only considered a "member" if you purchase something on their site.

0

[–] ABACABB 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Money laundering is taking money made through illegal activity and injecting it into a legal business so it can be used without suspicion. This is just plain old fraud.

0
3

[–] SecureRhino 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

That's what he is saying. Maybe many of those 30 million men aren't real either, but just faked data to launder money (by making it appear to come from real paying people).

From looking trough the data it seems like a member is every registered user, no matter if he paid. Interestingly there are a lot of entries with '<paid_delete>' in most fields! I wonder how much that was...
