The whole thing is rife with security, transparency, and privacy problems. Eg:

While they don't plan on it, I would assume the recordings will be released via FOIA requests. And that means countless lawsuits to have the FOIA requests actually followed.

Do you expect the police to post unedited streams of every camera on a searchable database? What do you expect?

They plan that, but I can imagine plenty of activists and groups pestering and bashing the police until they do. Of course, it'll only happen with high profile cases and not everyday incidents. Shame...

Stage 1 - Complete.
Stage 2 - Video is automatically uploaded to an offsite location monitored by employees of IA
Stage 3 - Officers cannot automatically turn on/off recordings

Yeah the videos need to be recorded by a third party. Can't trust the police

A transparent third party that makes the recordings accessible to the public. Unfortunately in the US, money does way too much talking to make things that easy.

I'm not sure you'd ever be able to achieve that. The closest compromise I could see is internal affairs. Considering they investigate dirty cops that might be the closest thing to an impartial investigation that would be allowed in court or as a law

Wow are these things really costing $1,700 each? Someone is getting ripped off IMO.

And immediately afterwards they will simultaneously have some sort of "technical malfunction".
Out of all the law enforcement agencies in America the LAPD is probably the one that I would expect this body camera program to improve the least. I'd be very happy to be proven wrong, but given their track record...

OK, all you ne'er-do-well's and criminals. Gt ready to vogue!

I've got a better idea, why don't we just attach cameras to all the criminals?
