Twitter's reason for shutting down the services:
"Imagine how nerve-racking – terrifying, even – tweeting would be if it was immutable and irrevocable? No one user is more deserving of that ability than another. Indeed, deleting a tweet is an expression of the user’s voice."

Repeating a tweet, however, is apparently not an expression of a user's voice. Free speech apparently means that certain people must be shut the fuck up.
And how is tweeting any different than actually speaking? Is it terrifying to utter any sentence because you can't delete it? It's not terrifying to me, but then again, I don't use Twitter.
The fact that they stuck the word "terror" in there is probably the most scary thing I've seen yet. This implies that people who repeat politician's tweets are terrorists.
the ignorant and often stupid masses don't realize that other people change over time. the context is lost. i believe there are people who are attacking one of the english princes over shit he did in the 1980's. context is lost, and the message becomes warped because of this. if someone has to go out of their way to find something that was said years ago, the search for it might lead to the context to understand what was meant by the words that came out of their mouth. miscommunication is too easy if there is no context. it is effectively cherry picking as far as logic goes.
What if whenever someone accidentally tweeted a nude loads of people saved them and then redistributed them? Geez, that would be just awful. I bet twitter would get right on top of that.
You say it doesn't matter much, but everytime i jump ship - the shit seems to hit the fan soon after. I'd like to think my small contribution helped that shit hit a bit harder :)
People don't use Twitter because it is a good platform, they use it because it is trendy. "Voat of Twitter" implies the platform is good enough that someone actually wants to revive it.
Twitter: respecting privacy, but only for rich politicians.
I see tweets of stupid things people have said all over the internet, but because they were just random people, Twitter does nothing about it.
Buzzfeed, facebook, the Huffington Post... Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they've even gotten a cease and desist notice from twitter about this.

You people so damn determined to make the internet a permanent record of everyone's lives to follow them around and hound them for perpetuity is scary.

God forbid that politicians should be held accountable for what they say.

I find it hilarious that they think they can actually force the internet to forget. When will people learn? We do not forget!

Not much of a surprise, that implied terrorism. It seems to be the new "Are you a communist?"-type thing.

Twitter is gay. You can only get in trouble using it (there's no winners only people who haven't lost yet), and the corporation is anti free speech.
[–] Karunamon 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
How is this not true of any social network anywhere ever?
[–] RonaldRayGuns 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
Who said it was?
[–] Cassiekin ago
Nobody said this wasn't the case. Hell, I choose not to use social media because I know I'd say something crass and get fired for it.

When you say/post something public, you can't just retract it. Deletion is a privilege and not a right

First i deleted my FB account - then came my Reddit account - and now my Twitter account. Speaking with actions since words no longer work anymore.
[–] Wilyum 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Exactly! I did the same with my twitter account, good riddance. It won't matter much, but it still feels good to tell twitter to fuck themselves.

So what's the new voat of twitter?
[–] TopShelfPrivilege 1 point 11 points 12 points (+12|-1) ago
Hopefully nothing. The people Twitter gave a voice to never deserved to have one.
[–] Ladderjack 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
My first reaction when reading this is that you deserve money for saying something so smart. An upvoat just doesn't do this justice.
Pro-tip: I'm not actually gonna give you money. . .jus' sayin', though.

What about all those Arab spring protesters that organized via Twitter?
