This is because Japan will tell you to fuck off if you're a financial immigrant from the Muslim middle east who has nothing to offer but a culture of violence and rape and pedophilia and welfare consumption.

Also, if you have a chance to visit Japan, you could see it for yourself that the Japanese are not friendly toward middle easterners and they could be outright hostile towards people who openly tell everyone that they are muslim. On another note, it is pretty hard to get Japanese citizenship if you don't relate to anyone from Japan. I know European people who have been living there for 20+ years and they are still in the citizenship process.

Yes, I have traveled extensively through Japan and can confirm.

The Japanese word for "foreigner" translates roughly into "outsider who should remain outside" and it's still common for Japanese to hang blessings if their neighbors have "foreign blood" because "foreign blood" is demonic.

And France too.

In fact one of Japan's really anti-immigration Prime Minister gaffed telling his elderly population to "hurry up and die" cause of the country's problems.

That's what makes the problem so difficult in those countries. the government doesn't like the mass of immigration any more than their populace but they're looking at the big picture. Either you drop the birth control or the elderly will dry you out.

That link doesn't explain anything. Much less take into account that there will be no jobs for additional children in the near future. The automated future will not support a large number of "economically productive citizens".

[–] didntsayeeeee 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

That Forbes article doesn't make much of an argument, it just asserts that it will happen.

We keep going on about how automation will eventually kill most jobs. The Japanese, who are certainly ahead of the curve on automation, may find that they can continue to have higher and higher productivity with fewer and fewer people.

Meanwhile the rest of the world will find the same thing, but they'll also find that they have vast numbers of surplus-to-requirements people causing problems.

I don't think a shrinking population would be all that catastrophic. There's already vastly more people of working age than there are positions which require a human operator, and technological progress will only widen that gap.

Unless a country starts kicking in Basic Income, the only other possible solution to that is a smaller population.

it is almost like if you don't hire foreigners, they don't come to your country...

stop blaming immigrants for the immigrant problem... yes that sounds weird, but seriously if hormel, adm and every other big corp didn't hire them, love to hire them.... they wouldn't come.

btw, they don't just hire them for coming... they literally truck them in.. build houses for them... help them avoid deportation... and the cities just take it because... to complain would mean to be 'not politically correct' even though it has nothing to do with that... that is how they get labelled.

This line of BS is really getting old.

Fact: take the jobs away and they'll still come for the handouts.

Fact: illegal immigrants are knowingly breaking the law and deserve to be held personally accountable for it.

Fact: take the jobs away and they'll still come for the handouts.

It's interesting you state that as a rebuttal to him saying immigrants wouldn't be a problem if people didn't hire them. Then you come in and say that they take jobs away. I don't know how you aren't getting this but if companies didn't hire immigrants then they WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TAKE JOBS AWAY.

EDIT: I misread but seriously, how would they come for handouts if they don't even have a job here? Contrary to what you hear on the news, getting welfare assistance isn't easy and you have to provide so much documentation it's ridiculous. Illegal immigrants without jobs here are not getting "handouts."

[–] RightHandOfTheGoat 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Why can't you both be right? The immigrants are coming for the handouts and the jobs. Just because they might come just for the handouts doesn't change the fact that US companies are knowingly hiring them. We shouldn't give them a pass and let them continue contributing to this growing problem. I say deport or jail them all.

Exactly. In 2007-2010, in America, there were 8 million job losses.. but what they never tell you is that there were 8 million work visa's placed during the same time. PhD and other highly educated South Koreans, Indians etc are getting paid 30-35k for a job that used to pay their American counterpart 150-200k/years. It's the companies that are the problem.

America was founded on illegal immigration, and it isn't doing so bad. (Remember, that's how all the damn white people got in.)

Illegal immigration only sucks at the beginning and for the lazy. Chill out and try harder and you'll stand a better chance of not losing your job to someone more efficient.

I would rather let the efficient immigrant take the lazy local's job. I don't need to feel anything about anyone to hold that belief. It is based in pretty basic economic theory. All I assert is that I'd be wealthier and healther if my neighbor (e.g. someone who bakes my bread) did their job better and cheaper.

All credible economists agree that (1) Japan has been in a slump for about 20 years, (2) the immigration heavy US has the highest, in absolute terms, PPP of industrial countries.

You want to see a country without immigration? North Korea is your role model. If you could, I'd recommend you move there: its ideology is similar to yours.

[–] sp00kygh0st 5 points 20 points (+25|-5) ago

You're an idiot if you think that Japan has been in a slump because of no immigration. Japan is in a slump because they listened to dumb leftist economists who told them that the only way to recover from their 1989 BOJ-induced bubble was to implement Keynesian Economics and now their suffering from a Liquidity Trap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquidity_trap

You want to know a country that doesn't have any illegal immigration and is prospering while everywhere else is going to shit? Israel. Not fucking communist North Korea you mongoloid.

(1) Japan has been in a slump for about 20 years

A big problem is that economists like to measure total economic growth, not per-capita growth.

Adding more people is a great recipe for growth, but it doesn't actually make the individual people richer. Japan's economic growth looks stagnant because their population is decreasing, but their quality of life continues to increase.

Population growth is great for the class of people who own things for a living, not so great for those who work for a living.

Okay, here's a logical argument: we should let them do our fighting for us. Make it so the only way to get citizenship is US military service and bam, we suddenly get shit tons of war fighters. It's a win win for everyone.

We'd get tons of legal immigrants and we'd have a troop surge.

Would probably cost us too much money to teach them English, how to read English, and all the other required stuff before shipping them out. If it cost less money too, then that would just lower the wage in the army

Houses in Japan, what with all the earthquakes, fires, atom bombs, and prehistoric monster attacks, weren’t built to last. This is how things have always worked in Japan.

When I did my homestay in Japan as a high school student, I lived in a home that has been lived in by 17 generations of the same family.

My in-laws' parents all live in homes that are all over 100 years old.

This article seems to be looking to oversimplify things.

And on the topic of legal immigration, it was cheaper and easier for me to move to, and work in, Japan than it was for me to bring my wife and children to America after the 3/11 earthquake. (My children were already US citizens with Certificates of Birth Abroad and US Passports by virtue of my citizenship) We spent well over $1000 over several months paying for our own background checks, putting our bio-metric data into the US government's databases and paying for one of five certified physicians in Japan to conduct one of the most overpriced physicals possible.

The way we handle legal immigrants is sub-optimal. The way we allow illegal immigrants is worse. The juxtaposition of the two is very frustrating.

And not even a good job at that. I can oversimply things even better than them: Japan is so overcrowded that it can't even hold all of the Japanese people at once, let alone let immigrants in. Ever wondered why there's so many caravans of Japanese tourists all around the world?

I have such respect for the Japanese. Not just the cultural and technological contribution to 'the west' but also the shear survivability of these people. We literally nuked them twice and burned all of their cities down and they rebuilt to be a dominate regional economy in less than half a century. Earthquakes of 8.0-9.0 variety? They laugh them off. Nuclear meltdown worse than the one that brought down the entire USSR? Please they aren't scared of a little Cobalt they will just invent the "Japanese Miracle" in 2025 if I remember correctly.

I am sure they will be fine, they deserve to be.

[–] Truly 1 points 15 points (+16|-1) ago  (edited ago)

To be fair, other than culture and tech they have contributed to the world most of your points are kinda... pointless.

On Their economy post-ww2

The US didn't destroy all of their cities in the first place. But either way the US was mostly responsible for their growth after the war; giving them TONS of money, getting them into GATT, and providing for their defense.

On earthquakes/nuclear

The Japanese culture actually contributed to the nuclear problem because people in charge of it didn't want to admit how bad it was and measures could have been put in place earlier if their culture allowed for more open communication. Their response to earthquakes is really no different from any country dealing with them regularly.

I am sure they will be fine, they deserve to be.

They are kinda responsible for some of the worst war-time atrocities ever committed. If you want to see the horror they inflicted on just a single chinese city click the link below or look up info on the rape of nanjing. I am not sure they are more deserving than any other culture of good fortune.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=rape+of+nanjing&ia=images

With all that said, I do love their porn. Just not big on your love letter to the country of Japan, considering their history.

Also plagued by an aging and declining population and stagnating economy (despite increasingly longer work hours) and high permanent unemployment.

But hey, bigger houses for old people, right?

(I'm not actually weighing in on immigration in Europe, but the lack of immigration in Japan is biting them in the ass)

[–] Tsugumori 1 points 5 points (+6|-1) ago  (edited ago)

I guess I need to break it down. An aging population has led to less growth, which in turn means less jobs. The Japanese economy is sorely lacking for skilled laborers and people with higher education.

Consider the immigration to the US from India or China as good examples. Making it easier for people to get work visas would go a long way for them.

Again, really not trying to weigh in on the Europe thing, it's a completely different situation that I don't know nearly enough about.
