A phone call is not a public event.

A politician tweeting ANYTHING - literally ANYTHING - is a politician making a public statement.

You are effectively saying that you support politicians being able to remove records of their own public statements after the fact.

That isn't a good analogy and this is why, public tweets made in an public forum aren't the same as private phone calls made from a private line. If you post it publicly, you've made a conscious decision to make your thoughts public. If you call you girlfriend up on the phone, you have not made the decision to make the call public.
