Cancer's days are numbered no matter where the cure comes from. It's going to be cheap and easy in the next 5 to 10 years to cure cancer. Check out CRSPR, this technique costs about 75 dollars to create proteins that will hunt down and eradicate your cancer. I don't think anyone is going to stand in the way of CRSPR either because of the huge potential it holds in gene therapy/manipution.

Man, this took me back to that Jello Biafra spoken word piece Grow More Pot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJZPu1iGiTY

Great stuff. Don't know how up to date it is though.

Thank you. Brand new hip hop is not a source for news.

I'm happily surprised that it kills cancer cells. I had always assumed that it's main value was simply as an anti-nausea drug or appetite stimulant, and thought people who said it "cured cancer" were nuts.

The baby boomers used to talk alot about a US Government funded University of Virginia study from the early 70's that concluded mj kills cancer cells.

Its been known for at least 40 years.

Problem was that was right about when the "war on drugs" narrative was introduced. One of historys great tragedies of timing.

I think part of the reason it was hard for me to wrap my head around was that marijuana also potentially can cause cancer. It's strange that it would do both.

Research in mice showed that these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation.”

It's most likely more the power of belief. The same level of information that ignores lots of things can cause cancer when given at 5000x the recommended dosage.

This is almost "Not The Onion"-worthy, really... Such a happy accident this is that it's difficult to look at it without a large degree of skepticism. Here is a quote from a HuffPost article on the matter:

A spokesperson for Cancer Research UK says that this is by no means an "admission" of any kind by the US National Cancer Institute that it can cure the disease. "There isn’t yet good evidence from clinical trials to prove that cannabinoids can safely and effectively treat cancer patients. And we’re far from knowing what types of cancer they might potentially work for, or at what dose," they said.

I can't say I blame scientists for not shouting from the rooftops just yet, as that is their way, but it's definitely promising information. On a slightly different note, I think it's worth distinguishing between things funded by the government and the government itself, the same way we do with things like, say, Planned Parenthood. This is a minor thing, but I think accuracy is important.

Also in the interest of accuracy, I hope no potheads are reading this and thinking to themselves, "I'm gonna keep smoking/smoke more because it'll keep me from getting cancer!" I strongly suspect the effective route for administration for the cancers/tumors with which it's been shown effective have been very localized injections of plant extract, and not just hot-boxing a bunch of rats on a daily basis.

EDIT: Something this reminds me of that you all might also find interesting is that some studies suggest that "magic mushrooms" (psilocybin mushrooms) might aid in the treatment of psychological disorders like depression. Enjoy!

Water and Oxygen kill cancer cells too at high enough concentration. The question is does marijuana kill cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue AND does it do a better job either with or instead of standard treatments. That information will take a long time and a lot of money to determine with any good certainty.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but don't expect this to be in the oncologists tool box any time soon.
