He also made a career out of demonizing gays as sexual deviants and trying to steer public policy in directions hostile to the LGBT community. When someone that has a large right-wing following is denigrating an entire population for sexual deviancy while at the same time diddling his sisters and cheating on his wife, I consider it notable due to the hypocrisy and utter lack of credibility it lends to his anti-gay movement.

I have no idea who Ashley Madison or Josh Duggar are.

Ashley Madison is a dating site for married people who want to have an affair. More here

Josh Duggar used to be on a reality show called 19 kids and counting. The family is deeply religious and say they believe in traditional family values. He was also an executive director of the family research council which "promotes what it considers to be traditional family values, by advocating and lobbying for socially conservative policies". Earlier this year it was revealed that Josh molested his sisters about a decade ago.

Due to the molestation scandal, he resigned from his position and the reality show about his family was cancelled.

You know there are going to be more than one marriage where both partners were cheating on each other.

Those marriages were over long before the cheaters registered on that website, just that now the cheated-on spouse can stop living in denial.

There are sex tapes of a prostitute named Ashley Madison. Apparently her big thing was taking a dump her sexual partners. She, unbeknownst to her sexual partners, filmed all of her interactions. She died under "suspicious circumstances" and her house was investigated. Well, her secret tapes were found. It's currently incredibly difficult to find any releases of the tapes, but that's the gist of what's going on.

lol His wife will never believe it. And even if she does she will have his sisters say how his wife has forgiven him.

He didn't rape them. He just touched them. Let's try to stick to the truth and not throw around the word rape like shitty feminists.

I feel bad for the stupid wife. I'm sure all their religious advisers/friends are talking her into staying with this POS.

She has 4 kids and the guy no longer has a job, which means he has no money. What else is she going to do?

Hahahahahahah this guy raped his sisters

So did Lena Dunham. Liberals don't get to moralize about "family values."

Lena Dunham is gross af. I have liberal positions on some things and find her behavior reprehensible.

Almost as reprehensible as attaching ugly personal behavior to public policy ideology and condemning all those who agree with any aspect of that ideology.

(I'm talking about you)

I'm so late that nobody is going to read this, but is anybody else concerned about how the hackers are trying to impose their morals on our society? I'm female, and married, and I hope to God that my husband would never feel driven to use this site, but SERIOUSLY! What the people are doing on this site IS NOT ILLEGAL, why should this site be forced to shut down bc what they're doing most people find morally wrong? People can be assholes, I don't want someone overseeing all of my private actions and saying " oh no, that goes against "my moral code". Fuck you! If I want to have an affair I can fucking search the web if I want to. I want outrage on the hackers being fucking prudish and telling us how we should live. I don't want my husband to want to have an affair, but this kind of moral dictatorship is abhorrent. There is no way they should be able to bring down a site that is legal. If they were offering CP or murders for hire I would be singing a different tune, but no they're offering affairs, that's not illegal!

I read it!

It's actually not about the userbase, at least supposedly. AM was taking credit card payments to delete people from the database, then not following through. That's why the hacking group claims they hacked them. Sucks for the existing userbase, but possibly overall in the long run better for all the people who didn't join and get scammed? I don't know, the whole situation is weird.

Thank you for explaining, I hadn't read it and didn't understand about the site "promising" privacy.

I'm not. Aside from the alleged reasons for the hack, which /u/PassingShip presented (I'm not saying those are u/PassingShip allegations, BTW, I'm saying they presented the hackers' alleged motivations), I don't see how exposing the hypocrisy of other people is “imposing their morals on our society”. If anything, it's quite the opposite. Do you want to take a bet on how many of the (former) members turn out to be “social conservatives” that boast about their defence of “traditional family values”, fighting against any form of reform that would touch their (claimed) ideal of marriage as “one man, one woman, together for life”?

This isn't about legality, nor about private matters, or “imposing” somebody's morals on somebody else. If anything, it's about turning somebody's morals against those same people.

Ha! I am so not even able to think of wanting to use a site like that. I'm very happily married to a guy who makes me feel awesome. I just was thinking they were threatening to close the site bc of morality, didn't realize it was about not providing the protection they promised.

Another source shows he paid a total of $986.76 for two different monthly Ashley Madison subscriptions from February of 2013 until May of 2015.
