I love how they have cathegories like real estate, tech, oil ect. All the ones who like beeing on that forbes list for "success". What about those who don't want to be revealed at all? Religious ethnicities and it's leaders, who don't want fame like this? In the USA, religion is a buisness, the Vatican is a buisness, and in the Middle East Islam is a buisness, than can support building multi million worth of mosques out of the pocket.

Putin is not the list. He is maybe the richest man on earth. This list is obviously the richest people that disclose their fortune openly.

Exactly, where are the Rothschild families? The Rockefeller's? They print the fucking money.

my personal belief with no facts to support: I don't think we have any clue who the top-10 richest people on the planet are. If you really were that rich, do you think you'd want it to be known? How many people would come begging for money? How many governments would come demanding you pay more taxes? How many state officials would ask for "more donations" to see what you want made law?

I think the richest people are smart enough to hide it all away, so that nobody knows they are the richest.

it doesnt matter what your motivations are, if you were in the top10 richest people in the world it would absolutely become a better place with your death and the dispersion of that money and power.

I don't begrudge them their wealth. Most of those people are self made billionaires, and within three generations, their families are likely to have squandered their fortunes anyway. A recent article by Money Magazine shows that %70 of the wealth is usually blown by the second generation. “Generation Threes are usually doomed.” “It takes the average recipient of an inheritance 19 days until they buy a new car.”

So, think of it as a loan to those wealthy guys for doing a good job. We'll be getting it back sooner or later anyway

I totally agree. I'm actually cheered by the number of people on the list who are "self made". On a related note, I think culturally we could do more to change how we view heirs and heiresses. This goes for "royalty" as well. We should view them as the moral and cultural equivalent to lottery winners. We don't begrudge them, but we don't admire them, celebrate them, or talk about them.

Having no moral relationship to the money in your possession should make you distinctly uninteresting and unimportant as a human being. You should be viewed as a lucky SOB with no more admiration, attention, or scorn given to your existence than would be afforded to a Powerball winner. When they attempt to wade into politics, however, they should be met by a chorus of derision.

Yes, they didn't inherit. But they mostly came from wealthy families. They were well off to begin with. It's a heck of a lot of easier to take financial risks when you don't lose everything when you fail.

Families gain wealth and families loose wealth. My family came to the US as Irish immigrants and didn't have a lot of money. Each generation worked hard and acquired a little more wealth than the previous generation. I was fortunate enough to get put through a good high school, but had to pay my own way through college. I'll be able to put my kids through college, and with luck they'll acquire more wealth than me. This type of thing goes on for a while with most families until one idiot blows it all and they start over again.

So, some of these people started off in a good position, but that's the way the world works. There are lots of people who start off broke and make fortunes. Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Kobe Bryant, Alan Greenspan, Derek Jeeter, Mike Bloomberg .. there's a big list.

Who are "we" in this context?

we the collective non 1%'ers - the money will end up back in the economy again in a few generations. A fool and his money are soon parted.

OK, there are a TON of self made millionaires. There are even a few self made billionaires. The point is .. within three generations of being on that list, the money will statistically filter back into the economy.

So Todd Snyder has a song about how religion was created to keep the poor from killing the rich and just taking what they want. I think we should abolish religion, do that, and call it a reset on civilization. Except no killing, I'm not cleaning that up.

No, see what you do is you kill 79 of them and promise to let the last one go after he's done cleaning up all the gore. Then when he's done you club him upside the head and throw him down an abandoned mine shaft.

Jubilee. Abolish positions of power, make all current wealth useless by starting a new currency, debts are all forgiven.

Haha, yeah! And the thousands of whiny Western one percenters on Voat are going to move into mud huts. It would be funny to hear them screech about how it's not fair, except mud huts generally don't have internet access.

The sad truth of this list is that its a list of people who's cash is publicly available to dissect. In truth you really don't know who has what other than these folks who are always on these lists
