Not sure if I'd really want to tie the soviets in there. Any real Marxist would be appalled by the way these privileged, bourgeois people harp on about race and gender while ignoring the elephant in the room that is economic inequality. They ignore it because deep down they know if they acknowledged it, they'd be exactly the evil they're denouncing. Granted, the Soviet union wasn't exactly as Marxist as it pretended to be, either.

Cultural Marxists viewed the destruction of Western culture as a necessary precondition for the success of "true" Marxism. You can't separate the two, although it seems that they kind of did:

Read more about the goals of the New Left and why the abandoned the labor vote in the 1960s to focus on social issues and identity politics. The so-called workers' revolution actually abandoned its advocacy of workers because work became considered a bourgeois institution. Marcuse and his colleagues adopted radical principles and core texts such as Paul Lafargue's "The Right to Be Lazy" to destroy what they believed was a bourgeois, Protestant "work ethic" that needed to be destroyed along with everything else representing classist Western "culture." The scariest part of all?

While formed in opposition to the "Old Left" Democratic Party, groups composing the New Left gradually became central players in the Democratic coalition.

His tactics may have been abrasive, and perhaps he cast too wide of a net, but Joe McCarthy was right. There are communists in Hollywood and in our electorate. This may even be why they're so fond of Islam and Muslims: practically all of them, except for Bernie Sanders who just comes right out and admits to it, engage in a form of taqiyya (strategic lying) to deny that they are Marxists so as to protect the "movement" and act in the interest of what they believe is the "common good."

Where are the real Marxists pulling the strings here, then? All I've ever seen are people who you would likely consider useful idiots, who don't even want to consider economic inequality because it would both detract from their race baiting, and because they're all well enough off that they'd land on the wrong side of the equation if they acknowledged it.
