This is what we harvest after having sown a decade's worth of fear-mongering in the name of "counter-terrorism," dreamed up by Bush et al. after 9/11 and continued by Obama and his war on journalists and the truth. Free speech zones, torture, going to war over spheres of influence and dressing it up as national security, normalizing 24/7 surveillance of every American citizen, prosecuting whistle blowers, establishing the DHS and making the TSA federal police, prosecuting journalists, and legalizing government propaganda. An entire generation has grown up seeing this as the baseline of normality, from which things could easily get worse without being "too much worse," and the definition of normal has been completely rewritten.

It's no surprise that we've started seeing indoctrinated, ignorant people clamoring for further restrictions on liberty and freedom. The government and military industrial complex have worked hard for over a decade to instill the fear of freedom and free speech in people, to the point where they're beginning to truly believe that "censorship is free speech."

This goes back way, way further. It just slipped out of the public eye for a time, during which it was presumed defeated.

This has nothing to do with Bush. This is all from the Frankfort School.

Frankfurt School

For those like me, who had zero clue what that was.

Times change, get on with it. You seem like an old Conservative dreaming about the olden times.

Resistance springs up against new polices, get over it. You seem like a fatalist who passively goes along with anything, never dreaming that society can be steered by people demanding change.

What he said is a pretty accurate summary of how this has progressively gotten worse in the past decade.

Nothing conservative or liberal or whatever label you want to use about it.

Please don't forget its those freedoms that are slowly being removed that allowed you to post stating what you wanted to say without fear of being identified.

He sounds like a progressive old enough to remember what things were like before 9/11 to me. A lot changed on that day, none of it for the better. And it was regressive change, not progressive change. Shockingly, it's not always a reactionary move to want to roll back a change in society. Not when the initial change was reactionary to begin with.
