You make the mistake of trying to judge the action, when the action represents the judgment made by your will on the intent that drives it. That intent either comes from adherence to the laws of nature (our instinctive needs as defined by the shared survial instinct), or if one ignores the needs (for ones selfish wants) then one forms ones own intent, based on the beliefs one forms out of ignorance.

Nature offers; your will consents; either through adherence to need (responsibilities), or by ignorance for wants (temptations). Meanwhile all actions are totally free for your will to put into motion, as in; there are no restrictions on actions. The judgment by nature in form of the consequences of the actions, will already be made when one acts, because adherence or ignorance of intent forms the action that causes the consequence within motion.

As for your example...you can exchange your labor for the fruit of others, you can trade food for water, you can trade your newborn for food, you can trade a country for a spoonful of sugar. What matters is that you a) adhere to your needs (water, food and shelter) and b) also adhere to the struggle to balance between both the positive and negative consequences of your actions. Today you trade your labor for water, food and shelter, and tomorrow this could tempt your neighbor to take advantage of your labor. Your positive action then becomes a negative action, and such things will happen to over and over, because motion (natures order) takes apart all our creations (consequences of our actions), which is why we need to constantly adapt to struggle for balance.

That being said; I work for others in exchange for goods all the time, it's a great tool to create unity and it will teach you quickly what ENOUGH means, because without the false value of money, every transaction made is between two power sources who need to balance each other. If I fix things without keeping my demands in check, then others will will be tempted to take advantage of me, and if my demands are too high I will be tempted to fix less, hence ENOUGH being so important a lesson to be reminded of. The relationships you build (in this case transaction based business relationships) need to be maintained in motion or they will be destroyed through motion.
