Can anyone help me find a passage in the Bible? The Israelites were facing a formidable enemy, so part of them were told to defect and fight for the enemy, which they did. The idea was to never be on just one side of a conflict.
It's in 1st Samuel. David is at odds with King Saul at the time and joins the ranks of King Achish and the Philistines. This was already after he had killed Goliath and 200 Philistines as part of his dowry agreement to marry his wife Micha. The Philistines figured he'd be a good aly since Saul wanted him dead. Then after a year and change, he and his mighty men moved to their own town and Immediately started working over Philistine towns for Israel to fulfill the prophesy that Israel was to kill the inhabitants of the land of Canaan. So in the long run he benefited Israel.
As I recall, it was different than this - specifically defecting just in case the other side won. Ensuring there'd be Israelites on the winning side no matter what.
