I get what you're saying, but do you really think the majority of people would question it if it has USPS designs all over it? People in general aren't as keen and observant as you or I might be. They fall for bogus life hacks, fake viral videos and other scams constantly. They would not question a lightweight mailbox at all if it looked the part. In fact, I would venture that you could put some wording on it such as "priority election ballot postal service box" and people would actually trust it implicitly because it was obviously installed to "ensure" their vote was safe. If this was not illegal all around, I would consider doing some social experiments with this concept. Being illegal, I will leave this to someone else to experiment with at their own risk.
Id go as far as saying that if everything else was visually the same you could have big white block letters saying 'This Is Not A Mailbox' and people wouldn't even read it close enough.
Oh no you're absolutely right I agree w you. I only brought up the door because its a 'tell' that the whole thing is fake and its the part people interact with. But many wouldn't even think about it if was a little light. Many young people may have never even used one. You could easily fool a lot of people w cheap and easy materials.
