In the mid 90s I picked up a Hertz rental car at the airport in Colorado Springs, that was arranged by my employer. A week later I went to the desk at the airport to turn in the rental on my way to catch my flight. The desk agent told me that wasn't their car. I showed them my copy of the rental agreement, and the big Hertz tag on the keys. Nope, not theirs, not in their computer system, couldn't be theirs. After an hour I just left the keys on the counter and caught my flight. Never heard from them again, my employer was never billed.
