I appreciate Hollywood reminding me that it's time to re-up my annual donation to the EFF. I encourage all who are able to do the same.

That's an excellent view on these matters. I appreciate your proactive approach.

If you have an amazon account you can select a charity to donate to. EFF is one of them. Its in the settings.

Edited some stuff. Its not just for prime members. Heres the FAQ https://smile.amazon.com/about

You don't have to donate much. Every little bit helps, even a couple bucks.

If people measured their entertainment budgets and gave twice what they paid for RIAA/MPAA media to the EFF, shit would change pretty fast. In this system, the dollar is the only vote that matters. Either buy less or give more.

Because calling people out with a demeaning name is the best way to rally support for a cause.

Right?

I also note that he's arguing for a dated system that does not favor the small filmmakers or creators. If his argument incorporated methodologies for expanding the market--not just protecting the already protected--I'd find it far more salient.

It's always my way or the highway...never a compromise. Look how long it has taken to get decent music and movie streaming services, yet they still won't release everything at the same time and punish people who want to buy it now legitly.

Well, I guess that will put a stop to it!

Then the EFF slowly raises a large middle finger.

Quote from article, “I know that ‘stop censorship’ and ‘don’t break the internet’ were effective talking points more than three years ago. That’s the past and a reference to legislative history. I think we’re all a bit wiser now". In other words, don't remember what happened 3 years ago when we didn't want SOPA, then they brought it back again and again and again. Let it fucking die, just like Carter said, our votes really mean nothing if they will just reintroduce the bill every few months or years.

Then it's time to get rid of the people bringing it up. I think we should just lock congress in the capitol building, and can leave after a fight to the death or with their signed resignation and a contract they will not seek office again.

I agree, government positions were never meant to be for life. Incumbents are usually bullshit, it's not supposed to be your job, it's supposed to be public service!

Can we just get this? I mean, I'd watch a BattleBots style show w congressman death matchs.

NSA here. That sounds like treason, citizen. You wouldn't want someone to...find...some unfortunate things about you, would you?

I would be okay with just firing every single politician in Washington by voting them out until there's no more incumbents left.

holy fuck those "anti-piracy" activists are full of shit. They are just puppets controlled by the big boys over at Hollywood. I'm gonna leave religion out of this but they really want SOPA back don't they.

It's shit like this that keeps me out of movie theaters. Not one dime from me until they stop the demands for broad censorship powers. Hollywood has no place in politics of any kind, their industry is entertainment not government.

I had a similar response to the music industry in the 90s when I became aware of all the small labels that were popping up. Those felt more worthy of my support.

Once I bought a cheap game on STEAM (5 eur). I felt nice when I find out that it was made by just one man. It's sad when big companies want 60 euros for a AAA title that is not even completed and half of the budget is spent on PR.
