IIRC the strongest correlation is the difficulty of classes you took in high school (AP, etc.) Which make sense, because those are the most similar to college courses. The SAT you can study for, and even smart kids who aren't particularly well read can get a good score. College courses (and especially life afterwards) requires effort as well.

I should know. I was a few points shy of a perfect score on the SAT (this was before writing was on the main test) and got 2 perfect SAT 2 scores and a third nearly perfect. But, man, I did not like to work hard. Nobody had ever really managed to force me to either, and the first two years of university kicked my ass.
