No, there is a "major" difference. They vocally support different social programs. Because they mean so little to the government financially, and they're a great way to divide the people.

It also gives some veil of legitimacy to they "two party" nonsense that most people eat up. It's telling just how vehemently people react when you try to tell them about this. Just like anyone does when they try to defend something that deep down they know to be false.
