Pretty sure their permits as bars do give the city the right to close them. Not that I would want to be open anyway. Not that many people are going to come in.
If we were really a free country then he could stay open and people would be free to go patronize his establishment. Nobody is forcing people to go out to eat, they can decide not to go out if they want.
Freedom isn't absolute. One person's freedom ends where another's begins. You aren't free to steal my money, for example. Why would you think that there is some imaginary "right" to spread viruses during an epidemic?
We aren't talking about free people. We are talking about businesses that promised to obey city ordinances when they applied for a permit to do business within the city limits. When you voluntarily surrender your rights to obtain security, don't be surprised when you get neither. I'm pretty sure we've been warned about that exact thing.
Y'all do know that the Supreme Court reaffirmed the Right of people to do the work they want, without government permission? The fees, licenses (taxes) and such that governments require is nothing more than a method of people control. In a free market, customers go where they wish; if stores, bars, clubs, and yes, government, do not offer what they want, they ignore them. Why the hell else do you think they keep making things mandatory?
Nashville is very concerned bc the majority of economy relies on entertainment and tourism. most people are in the massive Juw music biz and no income in sight because the whole year is shot...all festivals and concerts cancelled. great, as far as we're concerned. most are stupid useless hipsters with soft hands, desperately in need of a reality check.

True but they might actually be losing money to be open if they have to pay staff

Misleading headline. A more accurate headline:

Owners are wrong on this one. They operate under a city permit. They agree to the rules.

Free people don't need permission from their servants you fucking faggot. People are the ultimate authority. Your fear is the language of a slave.

You aren't free. Stop thinking you are lol

Right? This is like an employee telling her boss he isn't allowed to operate his business.
That being said they should probably avoid being open.

Yeah...however, Nashville's economy heavily relies on tourist trade/entertainment. You shut that down and people can't pay their bills.
[–] FreeinTX 2 points -1 points 1 point (+1|-2) ago
There is no "muh bills" exemption in the city code.

Businesses refusing to shut down is the only thing preventing a full-blown quarantine.
