So you're saying that those people's lives or situations aren't worth considering until it breaks 1000 this year? I believe you're missing the humanitarian issue.

I'm saying nothing of the sort. However, the title intentionally uses misleading language in order to incite a bigger response - I don't care if it's a story about puppies in flowerfields or an expose on the mass enslavement of the natives of Gliese 436b, clickbait is clickbait.

I'm going to have to say that every title in journalism is clickbait because they want you to read it - nobody's writing in a vacuum.

*Also - 697? That's 25 more than the Guardian says - that's even worse.
