You are my twin. This shit is out of our control and yet no one marches for this, while losing their ever-loving minds over one lion in Africa.

*Actually The Guardian changed the graphic - it's 672 up til today but they estimate 1150 by the end of the year.

People are confused and angry right now, and the gov't is doing a good job at directing their anger towards other citizens. We just have to keep doing our part and hope we can wake people up to what is going on.

That's probably what the white people in Nazi Germany said, after they realized it was too late.

You are correct. I have always had my finger on the pulse of what is coming so that maybe we can avoid some of it, but all I ever hear is, "Oh /u/asmodea, you're so negative." without ever taking in the meat of what I'm talking about. I have spent a lifetime with people shrugging everything off and it drives me bonkers. California was the worst for people in denial - I spent 8 years there - but even elsewhere, people willfully deny what is right in front of them and then they blame the messenger. Honestly, we have made no progress in critical thinking in the last two generations.

You're right - The Guardian changed the graphic to 672 and said that 1150 is projected - I can't edit the title - so sorry. Apparently there's a submission quota per hour and I can't repost it properly.

*Edit for mea culpa

Article (and title) is projecting the total amount at year's end based on the current pace.

Does anyone here remember the Stanford prison experiment? Give humans indiscriminate power and they will act on it. We are seeing this in real life now and the leadership seems to be taking their cues from the Gestapo handbook. We should take a collective look at who is doing the training and why they are failing. I find it interesting that those who feel it's okay somehow think awful things will never happen to them, like they are exempt from the harsh reality. I guess no one told them they're not on the VIP list either.

I just checked to get this link and see a movie was just released on the subject.

That's like asking the TPP panel to investigate pharmaceuticals for price-gouging. It's all the same hydra. The government and the cops are one. Why do you think they're armed with Fallujah gear? They're not going to examine and fix the situation - they made the situation on purpose. They built this.

Yes, I agree. When I said collective I was referring to 'we the people', not the so called elected officials and their appointees who have a stake to leave the game in progress as is.

Title is inflammatory. They say 1 in 6 are unarmed, however, how many of those were completely justified? I can point to numerous body cam's of justified shootings. Even the unarmed ones can be justified if circumstances are there, such as trying to run someone over with a car.

Fucking clickbait title.

1150 is the projected casualty count for 2015. The current count this year is 697.

ya know with all the bad press that the police is getting you'd think they be trying to tone it down not ramp it up. Some white kid in SC got shot over a bag of weed yesterday. story

Not only a "bag of weed", but a bag of weed thats retail value is probably less than $150 here in colorado. I couldnt find a weight of the cannabis but based on the statement : Tori Dianna Morton, 23, of Pickens, was in the car with Hammond, She was arrested for possession of marijuana.

It wasnt a felony amount which is usually over an oz and a half, or 42 grams. Something that can be purchased legally by two adults here; they may have one oz each, or a single med patient purchase is 2oz and more based on dr recommendation.

So sad and stupid.

She got a $500 fine, and the kid is fucking dead. Ergo, the cop put the value of this kid's life at $500. I am teeming with rage right now.

Here's what really bothers me: The police kill more people in 18 months than the entire country has executed in the last 40 years combined. The US in total executes between 30 and 50 death row inmates each year. Cops are executing 20-40x that each year without a trial. That is just mind numbing.

Without our input and by default, our government has made running from cops and "resisting arrest" death penalty offenses, sentence to be carried out on site.

The use of deadly force is also authorized when a person poses a significant threat to a law enforcement officer, usually when the officer is at risk of serious bodily injury or death. This is governed by the Tennessee v. Garner ruling in 1985 in which the U.S. Supreme Court said that "deadly force...may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others." This case abolished the Fleeing felon rule where a fleeing felon who posed no immediate threat to society (e.g., a burglar) could be shot if he/she refused to halt.[2]
