Voat is a lot like reddit when it comes to jumping to judgement.

The drone operator says the drone was over the property line for 2 seconds... also it was over 190 feet up. Perhaps he's lying, a video from the drone would have been more believable. On the other hand, it's hard to believe the shooter's 16 year old daughter would have been more than a couple of pixels from 190 feet away with the cameras typically carried on drones, especially over an FPV set up (which was not mentioned, so maybe there wasn't even video?)

The drone owner claims it was only over his home for 2 seconds. In 2 seconds the mans daughter ran into their home, explained the situation, the man gets a gun, runs back outside and then shoots it down. All in 2 seconds. I find his story hard to believe.

8 bird shot @ 200 yards with one shot.. Nice shot.

The drone owner produced a flight data recorder showing that he was only over the home for 2 seconds. Don't downplay that like it's heresay.

It's at the long end of the range for how far a skeet disk flies. Which is 186 feet. It's also 9 times the size of a skeet disk (16 square inches for a skeet disk), as most drones are about a foot across (144 square inches).

So yes, it's entirely reasonable, and you've likely never used a shotgun in your life if you think that you couldn't hit a skeet disk with 9x the surface area.

Probably not his first sortie. Also data can be cooked. It 's not like drone data is tamperproof.

If the drone was shot with bird shot, I find it hard to believe that it was 200ft off of the ground.

Without the video being released, IDK who to believe. Both sides of the story are so far apart.. someone is either lying or was drunk.

Do you believe skeet ranges are magic? It's only an extra 15 feet past the long end of the range for a skeet disk. That's not that far out of range.

Oh?.. I must just be a piss poor shot.. lol.. (I've also never been to a skeet range.. since I live 10 miles away from a huge national forest.)

But it DID come on (over) his property.. But I guess we'll have to wait to "know the rest of the story".

Why? this is a local dispute, move along.

Because this is probably going to be much more than a local dispute. This may be the case that sets the altitude at which I am allowed to fly a camera-equipped quadcopter over your property, assuming you live in the US. Currently, the way it works for pretty much everything else that flies is that things aren't allowed to descend below a certain height, and people will go to jail if they shoot at flying machines. I'm no legal expert, but I would expect that this case will follow precedent: It'll be illegal to shoot at quadcopters, and other people's quadcopters won't be allowed below X feet over private property. My prediction is that the courts will either ignore or fail to take the differences between poor resolution cameras versus stabilized high resolution cameras into account and will set one value of X.

Is mistaken lying? the guy saw a flying video camera near his swimsuit clad daughter. I would have done the same thing only I don't own a gun so I would have used the hose and the stream would have fallen short. Pathetic rage that should be my user name

Why the fuck was this asshole filming people's backyards? He seems like a douche. I don't give a shit how many neighbors you know. Stop invading people's privacy, jackass.

He was attempting to film a friend's house for a sales video, and was flying the drone from his house to the friend's.

You seem to think it's OK to shoot things flying over your property, but airspace is public.

It's not a thing flying over your property, its a video camera recording you and your private property without permission.
