That certainly seems to fly in the face of what's been said in the past; that bullies pick on others to alleviate their own feelings of inadequacy.

People who say that are the same people who say homophobes don't like gay people because they're actually trying to hide being gay themselves. It's just pseudo-psychological fantasy.

Yeah if you take a look at some of the most vocal anti-gay US politicians, you'd see that that theory holds water. Some homophobes are just assholes, but plenty are self-repressed gays.

Ah, well, I'm one of the people who says that. The only reason I can see someone being homophobic is if they're afraid that being exposed to homosexuality will make them question their own sexuality and they're so insecure that scares them and/or they're brainwashed by religion to hate anyone the church leadership tells them to.

I'd love to hear a reasoned/rational counter-argument to that if you have one, it might help me understand some of the people in my family.
