He does seem to have a history of purchasing legal permits to hunt these animals from authorities that can use that money to help pay for conservation. He is paying tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, which goes, in theory, to help pay for protection from poachers. It isn't something I would do, but it seems above board and it isn't like he is doing this in secret.

If his fee for killing this lion (or rhino) is enough to help pay to stop poachers killing three animals, is it worth it?

If the guy wanted to be hailed as a hero he should have just donated tens of thousands of dollars to conservation. This just looks like a rich man using his money to allow him to do something most people would think was deplorable.

Or you know, he could spend it on something he wanted to do. Just because you think it's deplorable doesn't make it so.

Most of the time, animals who are put up for hunting auctions are aged or diseased, and like Poco mentions, the money raised go towards conservation for the younger and healthier generation of wildlife.

So, what happened this time? He did business with a shady agency?

Yes. Absolutely. If it wasn't they wouldn't be doing it.

The African conservation groups do not live posh lifestyles, and their life's mission is the conservation and protection of endangered species. They don't give rights to hunt any of these animals without much consideration and understanding of exactly what the pros/cons are.

See Louis Theroux's African Hunting Holiday for some insight on the reality of the animal conservation efforts in Africa

I think that's it's the WAY he handled this kill. I'm sure this guy own binoculars and could see the collar. Legally and responsible thinning is good. He knew what he was doing. If this dipshit is truly sorry he would donate another 35k to the park

The way in which he killed it? You assume he could see the collar?

You have no clue. This is just ignorant and reckless speculation with absolutely no evidence to support it.
