Aussie here. The Confederate flag represents the "Dukes of Hazard" to me.

As an American you need to be more offended. How would you feel if an emu flag was being put on bumper stickers and t-shirts.

Well like that's your opinion, man. But seriously I am Yankee born and bred and I can't honestly tell what that flag represents to people from the south. Maybe some people think of it as a racial icon whereas others just think it represents southern pride regardless of who you are. I do think the knee jerk reaction to some crazy kid shooting up a church is dumb though.

Do we stop flying the American flag because it represents genocide and oppression to some natives? How far are we going to take this?

Great question, and a valid one because you are completely right. What about the Irish Americans that were treated like shit when they came over, or how about the Chinese that came over to the US and were exploited? Can't forget about the Japanese Americans that were thrown inside internment camps during WWII, is the US supposed to compensate everyone for every heinous act in its history by people that aren't alive today in some financial or symbolic way? We have to look towards the future, not be stuck in the past.

Why should i care about what some party-contry singer says about a political issue. He has no expertise in this issue or any political issue for that matter. We pay this man to sing songs other people wrote for him ( which is fine ) by why does his opinion on this matter on this subject. That would be like going to a electrion for advice on your directorial thesis in african American studys ? Somone please enlighten me ( not rhetorical) in short https://youtu.be/RFZrzg62Zj0

Because he is a white male southerner who is very well known in country music. Most of his fans are white southerners as well so hypothetically he might not lose a lot of fans if he says it is part of his heritage etc.

The American flag is also a symbol of racism.

USG loves fucking up brown people. We aren't so great with colored folks at home either:

Who the fuck cares about some colored cloth?

You mean that after 150 years go by, people all the sudden discovered the that confederate flag could be taken as a symbol of racism?

The issue is not with it being on personal property its about it being displayed on buildings funded by tax payers. Sort of like asking people of the Jewish faith to let the Nazi flag hang on court houses and funded by their dollars.

I could care less what people do on their own. You can have your flag on your property, wear it on your body, swaddle a baby in it. That is fine. It has its meaning to you I get it. Your freedom, your choice. What you don't get to do is tell others what it means to them. You can not rewrite the negative history of the flag and its racist ties. To me it is a symbol of racism. To you its southern pride. The US has one flag that represents this country as a whole and that is the only one that should hang on gov buildings even with its negative ties it is the flag that represents the country. But what people do personally I don't care about.
