Are they sending cops to escalation classes now? He could easily have ignored her complaining after he asked her what was wrong. He escalated this situation, not her.

Did you watch the other interactions this cop had in the long video though?

I look at it like this, and I think there are issues it as well: do you blow smoke in a cops face while you're at a stop? Do you repeatedly disregard, like I don't know, basic etiquette and then talk shit and defy every single thing a cop says to you?

Anyone who says, "well, she didn't deserve to die!" is right, and completely off topic: she didn't die in this video that we're talking about. Who knows why she died at this point. If she was murdered, the murderer should be punished, no question. But I simply cannot get on board with anything other than the fact this woman did everything in her power completely wrong during this interaction.

It's not a crime to be rude to a cop or smoke in your own car. This cop made it a crime. I think the police department and union should be liable for damages caused due to this kind of escalation until they begin proper screening and training. They need to be trained to be twice as diplomatic as they are firm.

We have the world's biggest prison population. Most of them are in there for victimless crimes. We can't call this a free country when disrespecting authority figures gets you thrown in a cage.

At any point the cop could have deescalated the situation. He chose not to. I'm not saying he has a hand in her death, but he, being the professional, should have dealt with her differently.

And yes, I absolutely agree she could have acted better. I would never act like that around a police officer. I do respect the position of authority they have and that they have to be on guard against possible threats.

You're basically saying it's OK to be arrested and held in jail for 3 days for having bad manners.

As much as the problem of cop escalation is real. Stupid people believing they have the right to disregard cops is just as much a problem.

I'm sorry dude, but they DO have the right to disregard a cop telling them what to do just for the sake of it. Just because cops beat the shit out of people and teach you to agree, doesn't mean it's fundamentally right.

Cop gave the woman an unlawful order without ever telling her why she was being arrested and became increasingly violent against her for no reason other than she wouldn't verbally submit like a 3 year old to a parent. Cops need to learn to talk to citizens as their equals or damn near close enough to it cause it is blatantly obvious in the long and short version of this video that the cop wanted to squash her from the moment she voiced an annoyance with getting a ticket.

As long as she's obeying the law, she has the right to refuse to do what he says. She had every right to keep smoking her cigarette.

He's required to tell her why he's arresting her, HE broke the law.

Canada, luckily. The RCMP are quite professional and have been a pleasure to deal with every time I've interacted with them. Some city police departments can be on the shitty side though.

Are you freaking kidding me? This is the guy's fucking job and you're telling him HE needs deescalation classes? I'm not telling you what I used to do for a living, but sometimes, defiant people like this woman have to be dragged out and detained. The people that run those classes are scam artists. Get out and see the real world sometime, where people aren't nice, passive suburbanites thinking about what everyone in their neighborhood is going to think of them.

It's a tragedy that she died, and I hope the truth of that matter is discovered, but this video taken by itself is still a perfect example of "how not to deal with police". Yelling at them, not complying with orders, resisting, threatening them with legal action is pretty much a play by play of everything you can do to make them look for a reason to throw you in jail.

So a #blacklivesmatter activist was acting like an obnoxious and trashy idiot towards an initially polite police officer. The police officer ended up getting pissed off by her disrespectful attitude and ordered her to get out of her car. She refused and fought with him as he tried to get her out of the car. He ended up whipping his taser out and yelling "I'm going to light you up!". People ran with this quote and hilariously tried to use it as proof that he - or some other racist(s) within his police department - murdered her. And no, she didn't die from being roughed up or tasered or any of that. She hanged herself in her cell.

The dashcam video of her arrest got released and people are pointing to the footage as proof that she was murdered by a group of racist white cops that disguised her murder as a suicide. First off, you can watch the video and see for yourself that she was acting like a massive b**** during the entire encounter; calling him all kinds of names and generally acting like a b****. And oddly enough people are citing her abusive remarks in the video as proof that she really enraged the closet Klan members at this police department; and so because these evil white supremacists couldn't handle their delicate pride being bruised by this proud black woman, they conspired to murder her by making it look like she hanged herself in her cell.

Yeah, SJWs are that paranoid and racist towards white people - especially white police officers - they actually believe that her suicide was part of a larger white supremacist conspiracy to hold "people of color" down. Social media is already going crazy with SJWs calling for the white police officers at this police department to be lynched for being evil racist murderers.

Anyway, you can see the dashcam video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf8GR3OO9mU

And here's a typical example of how the media is covering the incident:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-TQ98mRAiw

Notice how they carefully edited the footage to make her look like an innocent victim that was being abused by racist white police officers. "Ow! My head! I can't hear anything! Wah wah!" Funny how they didn't include how verbally abusive she was being.

Basically a black woman kills herself and the media are being massive opportunist liars for trying to turn her suicide into the next big white-on-black racist scandal.

Are you delusional or the police's PR firm / lawyer?

Lawyers of VOAT would someone please provide a step by step of what each side did, noting what was legal and what was illegal? That is, can a cop order you to stop smoking? If you refuse to comply may they 'pull you out to the vehicle'?

Those cops are fucked, black women generally do not commit suicide according to statistics. They messed up, big time. That said, she was a complete moron, but I have serious doubts she was in the state of mind to kill herself.

The autopsy will tell the truth. Cops know the system too well to hide a brain hemorrhage or lynching as a suicide by asphyxiation. She was fucking crazy, she raged harder than any angry black person ever has.

Dude, I used to work with black people, and this sort of shit was COMMON. Par for the course with them, and they'd do it over NOTHING.

I just don't get it how people being pulled over for a minor traffic infraction start out being combative and non compliant. Just shut up, take your potential ticket then move along. Half of the time if you do this you get off with a warning, escalating this is what got this lady arrested. Most DPS are semi-cool until you piss them off, then smokey is going to burn you. Now what led to the events later in the jail are a separate issue altogether, but protest your ticket in court later on then move along.
