Its called Herostratic Fame. Named after Herostratus who set fire to the Temple of Artemis (one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world) in order to preserve his name in history. He did it because he knew his life would never amount to anything great and that he would not be remembered otherwise. It was actually illegal to speak his name for hundreds of years following.
