unless you are re-inventing the wheel and science from scratch, you have to get information from someone else someplace.
one of the advantages of humanity is being able to hand down information, be it the verbal traditions of the tribe, or the writings of various folks who came before.
but you need some way of being able to establish trust and reliability in your sources.
Otherwise you are back there with the chimps and gorillas who have no method for transferring knowledge from one generation to another except by the old "monkey see, monkey do". Without language and record keeping, this is a really slow method of passing on knowledge.
Common sense is not universal. Common sense depends on the common experience of people in a culture. it is the common "sense of things"
What is common sense on a farm is not the common sense of hunting in the siberian wilderness, or the common sense of living in a japanese city.
Consider the western convention of naming streets. it isn't done that way in japan
