My point is that the UK was, and had been for generations, ruled by Germans and they changed their name to avoid to association with them in the wake of WWI.

But, the Anglo-Saxons are Germanic. And the Normans were Nordic-French. So...... how far back on generations do we want to play here....

When has the UK ever been ruled by a British house?
My point is that where a House originates from really doesn't matter. WWI anti-German sentiment ran pretty deep.

Define "British".
The Tudors probably.

Alfred the great? James VI and the early Stuarts until they became normanized through marriage?
And the relevance of the predecessors to the house of Windsor being German (though Germany didnt exist then), is that there were tremendous ties among the blood related rulers of the uk, germany, and Russia pre WWI thatgave rise to the strong windsor nazi sentiment before wwii.
