I don't know why anyone is worried. Sites like youtube haven't had any problems at all with false/improper take-down notices. /s

None whatsoever. I can tell you for a fact that among the many abridged series channels out there absolutely none of them have received multiple takedown requests from Japanese companies who believe they're infringing on their copyright with a parody work. Absolutely none at all. /s

Spez showed a shocking lack of understanding of the law in his AMA

Maybe they feel they have too much traffic or something?

It's unfair that they have so much traffic when other sites have so little. They're re-distributing the wealth. GG Reddit!

Hey guys, who has some free time on their handshands today and wants to take a trip over to report some content? No, wait, that would be brigading. We can't have that.

In spez's ama, he explicitly stated that the non copyrighted content only applied to stuff hosted on the website. So links to pictures & illegal streams, no problem. But links to torrents, no dice (because magic hand waving).

Those subs aren't even "hugely popular." Their subscriber numbers are high because they're defaults everyone gets subscribed to when they join.
